Le Canal Saint-Martin

Philippe and I visited this lovely area of Paris three years ago and it came to mind again, so I thought I’d try a quick doodlewash. The sky was actually a dull gray when we were there, so I opted for the sky we should have had. Still trying to figure out painting water and trying to practice it more.

The canal was ordered by Napolean in 1802 to supply Paris with fresh water. It fell out of use and by the 1960s it narrowly escaped being paved over for a highway. So glad it survived! It’s a lovely place and I hope we can go back there soon.
