Wildflowers by Grace Yvonne Millette

Today’s gorgeous guest doodlewash is from Grace Yvonne Millette, from British Columbia, Canada (follow her on Instagram @alightinglightly). Her beautiful depictions of nature as well as furry and feathery friends are definitely worth checking out!

Grace says, “The spirit of creativity has been fluttering in my heart from early on leading to a beginning in a college art program. However, I set that aside and it took me way to many years before I began to feel it was okay to engage in my art and begin drawing again.” (so happy you did!) This past spring her Instagram posts have included the beginning of her now regular watercolor practice.

Her process is very organic as there is “much intermingling between nature and the garden of my imagination.” Circumstances allowing, she enjoys beginning outdoors as she loves to draw from life (hence, all those images of her furry friend, Blitz, on Instagram!) and often adds photos from her phone to her references.

Grace says, “After my initial pencil drawing the watercolour dance begins. And, here I am learning to pause for an overview first! I can easily pass the time engaged in the magical play of floating colour and water about on the paper… and with watercolour that can be entrancing!” (We definitely agree, Grace!)

Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful doodlewashes with the world Grace, and so happy you’re back to creating art again. Looking forward to seeing all the magical and beautiful things you’ll create next!
