Today’s Guest Doodlewash comes to us from Sharon Mann in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sharon was born in Inglewood, California (very near Los Angeles) and raised in the San Fernando Valley. She’s also lived in San Diego and Palm Springs before ultimately settling in Vegas. Be sure to follow her blog Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday – A creative kick start to the week to see more!
Sharon has been involved in art since the early age of 5 years old. The ceramics pictured here were among the first pieces of art created by the budding young artist. She says, “My kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Jones, set me on my life’s path. I’m now 66 years old (and retired from full time employment) and spend time every day creating art.” (And we’re so happy that you do Sharon!)
During her career years, she was a graphic designer/creative director for a magazine publishing company and later a graphic designer/communications director for a non-profit.
Sharon says, “I spent many years using fabric as my medium for illustration but now I’m only using watercolor, water color pens/pencils and my trusty black pen.” (Nice! These are my favorite tools for creativity too!)
Sharon’s method for drawing is to sketch with pencil and then add color and black pen, if needed. She likes to layer color and loves the transparency of watercolor which offers “surprising textures and unexpected results.” Her daily routine is to wake early and take a walk, I then draw for 2-3 hours.
She says, “I like blogging because it keeps me disciplined and my portfolio current. I’ve learned so many new techniques from fellow bloggers, plus the best bonus ‘new friends!'” And I couldn’t agree more! (click here to follow her!) So happy to have you as a new friend Sharon, and can’t wait to see what you’ll create next!
