Doodlewash and watercolor painting by Sibella of purple Hepatica FlowersHi, my name is Sibella (follow me on Instagram, Facebook and visit my blog!). I currently live in the United States (Indiana), but was born and raised in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a small country in South-Eastern Europe. My artistic interests reach as far back as early childhood. I was always up to creating something even if it meant a mess! In Bosnia, I also received my art and education degree.

Doodlewash and watercolor painting by Sibella of Chocolate Lab PuppyI took a long break from painting in the times when Bosnia went through war in the beginning of the 90’s until about 2006 when I finally felt settled, safe and at home in the U.S.

At the present time I focus on painting in watercolor and soft pastel. I choose subjects that spark my interest and inspiration, and those can be people, landscapes, cityscapes, animals, still objects, flowers, etc. etc. I have a huge file of photos that I want to paint from and would most likely need another lifetime to complete them all! I am currently remodeling my home office and turning it into my very own, little studio and can’t wait to complete it. My favorite watercolor paints are Winsor & Newton and I prefer Arches cold press 140 lb paper. I use a variety of brushes, my favorite being Winsor & Newton bamboo brushes.

Doodlewash and watercolor painting by Sibella of pink peony peoniesI start my watercolors with lightly sketching a subject with a pencil and then I continue with adding washes and details until I reach desired effect. I love watercolor because it’s a very playful medium and I am constantly learning something new through trial and error. Being a pastelist most of my artistic life I strived for precision and accuracy, and even though watercolors can be very clean and precise, I like mine to kind of run their own course. I am not much concerned about making a mistake and that’s how I find freedom in watercolor painting – it’s truly liberating!

Doodlewash and watercolor painting by Sibella of Aslan the LionI also paint in acrylic, mixed media, pencil and ink. I recently started practicing calligraphy and really loving it. For me it’s all about mood and inspiration. I am also interested in other forms of expression and creativity, such as poetry, stained glass, pottery and jewelry making. I love baking, gourmet cooking (you can visit my food blog which I no longer maintain, but has some good recipes!), gardening, knitting and the list goes on… I love to listen music while I create and sometimes music sparks a painting idea in my mind.

      1. Awww, thanks for the encouragement Sibella. I’m just not much of a ‘process’ girl. I would like to reach a high level very soon, but these things take years of training.
        🙂 ❤
