Since vegetables are pretty much all I eat, I couldn’t really decide on a true favorite. In the end, I just went with one of my favorites I enjoy more in the hot summer months and did a quick doodlewash of a sliced cucumber for today.  The phrase “cool as cucumber” comes from the this little vegetable’s unique ability to cool the temperature of your blood.  This little trick also works topically which is why you often see cucumber slices slapped on the faces of people getting a facial. I’ve never tried putting food on my face, but I do love a salad of thinly sliced cucumber in the hotter months. As a kid, though, I would only tolerate them once they’d been transformed into pickles.

I don’t have much time today to ramble on about whatever comes out when I type. It’s been a lovely weekend and I hope each of you are enjoying the same. I’m enjoying a glass of wine right now and feeling relaxed. In all the fabulous festivities of World Watercolor Month and the subsequent formation of World Watercolor Group things have been rather busy lately. So, I’m going to take a little break this evening and keep this post short. For all my WordPress friends, I’ll be back to see what fabulous things you’ve posted, but I’m taking a little break this weekend. Thanks to all of you fabulous people who’ve made blogging a truly special thing. I really can’t thank you enough for your love and support. And above all else, thanks for inspiring me. I don’t think I could doodlewash daily if it weren’t for your fabulous art that you post. Just knowing you’re out there making beautiful things each day makes me feel… well… cool as a cucumber.

  1. Enjoy your wine and your evening! you deserve it. I love your doodlewash, and I love cukes! Especially this time of year when I can pick them right off the vine in my own yard! They are so sweet and wonderful! But…… You had me concerned with your first sentence. Vegetables are pretty much all you eat…. Really? Although I would admire that – you are missing out on so many yummy things!!! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Jodi! 😃💕Oh my gosh! You have them in your yard?! I’m so jealous! Thanks awesome! And yeah, we rarely eat meat. Not fully vegetarian. Just only get meat from a local butcher who only gets farm-raised (P wants to know the animals were treated well) and don’t always make it there each week. Hehe 😊

  3. I love the drawing, and how you got all the twists and turns and textures. I once had a ‘pakora’ once- was really good. This vegetable can go way beyond a salad or a cool drink.

  4. Thanks for the inspiration and I’m glad about the meat you are buying. I think we all need meat but factory farmed meat is horrible for everyone with the GMO feed and the animals living in their own filth. Good on you, Charlie! Well done. And beautiful painting, as always. Glad you had a nice weekend break. You deserve it!

  5. I totally didn’t know that about cucumbers! I agree though Charlie, one of my faves any time of the year. Here’s a simple recipe that harkens back to Anna Kerinina. Get a good hearty bread like a pumpernickel (that’s what she used) then add good butter. Slice some cucumber and drizzle with honey. What I do to modernize it (especially since I have to be gluten free and if you knew anything about GF bread you’d know it only tastes good toasted, lol) Toast a bagel, butter then add a small amount of a good mayo like Hellmann’s Lite. Drizzle generously with honey then liberally layer with thick cut cucumber, add S&P to taste. Holy cucumber it’s GOOD!! Have a great week Charlie!

  6. all of a sudden i want some cool crunchy cucumbers . Ive tried to grow some, but i only seem to have one ( very ugly ) at the moment ! i do how ever have an abundance of zucchini if you had any recipies id be forever greatful. I have a lovely none for soup over on my blog if yo would like to take a look, ( my blog is very new so not much there yet )
