Delving back into this month’s prompts, we have some molten lava cake with ice cream. Actually, in our house, it’s referred to as fondant au chocolat, but I’ve decided to go back to English headlines now that I’m no longer in Paris. I don’t actually care for regular chocolate cake as the flavor is too subtle and doesn’t taste like chocolate at all to me. But this lovely dessert is literally oozing with dark chocolate goodness so I’m a total fan. It’s a simple little dish, but it’s so memorable each time I taste it that it’s the first cake that popped into my head. And, of course, ice cream hopped right in beside it as it’s always a perfect pairing. This is drawn from a photo reference, because I’m now on a post-vacation diet and not allowed to eat such things. That is, until I’m able to drop the little French souvenir around my midsection that I had no intention of taking home with me.

After all of the talk of feeling great yesterday, today, the jet lag has crept up again. I’ve had a couple extra cups of coffee in an effort to stay alert, but they’ve really only succeeded in sending me to pee more often than I’d like. And apparently, causing me to overshare information with you now. It’s a strange feeling going back to your real life again after a vacation. There’s always that moment when you’re away where time stands still and it’s as the reality you’re experiencing will go on forever. Now, being thrust back into everyday life, I’m still adjusting and finding myself rushed again and falling behind. But on the other side of things, I’m grateful for my actual reality and still happy to be back at home and falling into familiar routines.

Soon everything will go back as it was before and vacation will be just a distant memory. But today, I’m still finding myself in between two worlds, missing one dearly while cherishing the other. I’m very late in posting this as it’s been tough to get caught up with things today, but feel good that I managed to do so. Thanks to everyone out there who reads my little ramblings and views my daily doodlewashes. You motivate me to keep going and on days like this one, I really need it. Seriously, I think I’m being punished for bragging about the lack of jet lag as I’m nearly falling asleep as I type this. Sweet dreams to all of you out there and may they also include your favorite kind of cake!

  1. This looks lovely, and beautifully laid out. I don’t believe I’ve had Molten Lava Cake – it sounds incredible, but then, it is chocolate! And cake. “I don’t actually care for regular chocolate cake” – bit of an OMG moment there!😉 But I understand what you’re saying; sometimes it can be a tad disappointing. This does sound rather more seductive.

I hope the jet lag clears soon. I don’t know how you do this tireless posting business – but then, you are Captain Doodlewash! Thank you for sprinkling each and every day with fun.

    1. hehe… an OMG moment like when you talk about ice cream?!! LOL You definitely need to try this kind… It’s just oozing with so much pure chocolate it would make an oompa loompa drool! 💕😃 And I think daily posting has become sort of a habit… thanks for indulging me and looking at them each day. 😊 Sometimes I think people are getting tired of my tireless posting business. hehe

  2. You have such a way of explaining yourself, Charlie. I feel a total connection. I’m falling asleep as I write this. The lava cake is delicious and so easy to make. My family’s favorite. Very nice painting!

  4. One of the reasons I retired as soon as I could from being a midwife was I had jet lag each and every time I was called out for a long night, and that would be once or twice a week – and the recovery time got longer as I got older. But- back to chocolate. Yes mmm your doodlewash lava cake fondant thingy looks scrummy But I”ll have mine with clotted cream please. .

    1. Wow… I can’t even imagine what your form of jet lag would have been like. Glad you retired from it now. I do find that each year it gets a bit longer on the recovery times. but as for cake…. yeah… anything with cream is good by me so I’m in for that too!! hehe 😃💕

  5. Even falling asleep, your painting and writing are fantastic, Charlie. And the fact that you are managing a post even with jet lag is even more inspirational. Hope you’ll ease back into regular life quickly. (Rule of thumb is 1 day = 1 time zone. Maybe that won’t be true for you.)
