After seeing today’s prompt of “detail” I was at a loss as to what to do. I love getting lost in the little details for pretty much everything I make, so nearly whatever I doodlewash would likely qualify. So, I opted for the last little detail of any fabulous meal – the dessert. We went out to lunch today at our favorite restaurant and even though we were full, we asked to see the dessert menu. This is always a recipe for delicious disaster as there will inevitably be something on the list that sounds plausible no matter how you stuffed yourself with the food that came before it. This isn’t what we ended up with as we devoured it before I could get think to get a reference shot. We instead had some pomegranate flan that seemed like a “light” option or at least something we didn’t have to chew very much. Flan is delicious, but when they set it down in front of me, it always has that fleshy jiggle that sort of viciously taunts me saying, “yeah, I’m about to make you fat.”

When it comes to my doodlewashes, I am always looking at details. I love exploring all the various facets of my subjects and that’s why I always opt to do a little less abstraction in my sketches. I like trying to bring some of those details to life. Plus, I love layering on color. This one got a little rushed in the end when I realized the time and that I only have about 15 minutes left to complete this post before friends arrive for the evening. I’m not sure whether the strawberry sauce came out so much like perfect plating or a bit like a crime scene, but I hope it at least looks edible. I’m still full, so I’m hoping that dinner will be delayed a bit while we catch up on life together. Wine should poor through the cracks just fine though, so that won’t likely be a problem to start the night. Whoa, 5 minutes to go, so guess we better make this quick!

I hope you’re having a lovely Saturday night and are treating yourself to all those things you know you “shouldn’t have” as well. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to treat ourselves to things we love. I think it’s funny how often I sometimes try to talk myself out of even the things I enjoy. I definitely do that with chores and things I dislike, but I also find myself doing it with things that are almost too pleasurable. Like dessert. It’s funny that these extremes have a way of making me second guess myself. Tonight, though, I’m just going to go with the evening and enjoy it without wondering whether or not I “deserve” a treat. I’m just going to assume that I do and have fun. Actually, that’s pretty much how every day should be enjoyed. Even when it comes to having fun, I think it’s good to explore all the possibilities that could make it even more fun, down to the last little detail.
