Day 6 - World Watercolor Month - A Tiny Crab - Doodlewash

World Watercolor Month – Day 6 – A Tiny Crab

When met with a prompt of “on the boardwalk” for Day 6 of World Watercolor Month my mind went to lobsters and crabs, and I ultimately chose a crab and made a little sketch of one. I’ve seen people posting pictures of cute crabs and I never really thought of crabs as particularly cute. Though I’m sure I’d think differently were I ever to chat with a crab’s mother. But finding this tiny one, I was immediately smitten and just had to sketch it. With so many legs and limbs, I’m not even sure if I’ve captured them all, but hope a little crab has emerged. We are nearly through the first week of World Watercolor Month and it seems like it’s moving too fast! I hope all of you will continue to use the hashtag #WorldWatercolorMonth every single time you post on social media and join the global celebration! If you see a friend not using the hashtag, please be a good friend and remind them, so we can build the biggest and most beautiful social gallery ever! Feel free to jump in at any time and join us! Prompts are super optional, just paint what you love! And if you’d like some free samples, please always be sure to read my full post on doodlewash.com!

I’ve mentioned many times that I don’t live near a beach and the idea of a boardwalk was simply part of a song I heard once in my youth. I was over 18 by the time I actually visited an ocean for the first time and was suitably amazed at the experience. I guess it’s not dissimilar to talking about lightning bugs to people who have never had the pleasure of seeing them each night in the summer. Each of us live in very different parts of the world, with unique things that seem commonplace to us and yet incredible to those experiencing them for the first time. I think that’s what I love about World Watercolor Month. Seeing glimpses of life in all parts of the world creates a beautiful painted tapestry of cultures. A view of the world in watercolor that evokes such wonderful emotions and reveals so much. It’s a pleasure to see them fill my feed each day. And though, this year, I often don’t have as much time to comment as I would like, I am watching each and every beautiful thing you make and my heart is smiling. And, best of all, I know you’re making people all over the world smile as well!

And, as always this month, I have something that will hopefully elicit smiles for many of you. Today, I’m giving away something that’s very near and dear to my heart as it’s the very palette that I used when I started painting, the one I used today, and the one that appears next to the official logo for World Watercolor Month! I’m giving away 10 Joe Miller Travel Painter Palettes with Brush (fill it with your favorite paints!) to the first ten people who comment with “I Love World Watercolor Month”! Because, really, how can you not love a month dedicated to the celebration of our favorite medium?! Please remember that if you comment to select receive notifications in email or check back as if you haven’t won yet, I’ll be asking you to send me your address so we can ship you your free sample! I’m loving the chance to give free stuff to each of you each day as we celebrate this month together. And if you haven’t entered the two awesome giveaways yet, then don’t forget to enter and spread the word for more entries here and here. Current giveaways are listed in the sidebar of this site (check the official rules for eligibility on these as not all sponsors can ship to all locations). Free samples via these posts, however, can ship to most places (apologies in advance if we can’t ship to yours). And most of all, thank you for making World Watercolor Month the absolute best month of the year!

  1. I love World Watercolor Month! I really do! It is so inspiring to see all the beautiful work and the support and encouragement is wonderful. Thanks again, Charlie, for all that you do. We appreciate it very much!

    1. I agree, your crab is very cute 🙂 and it’s coincidentally one of my dreams (maybe too strong a word? 😊) to see a lightning bug!

  2. I love world watercolour month!
I got my paints out today and tried mixing colours for clouds grass and water. I’ll have to say the grass and water weren’t that exciting, not even a tiny bit realistic. However, the clouds were a different matter! I used black and very quickly realized you only need a tiny bit of that colour, I didn’t have any white, so added a shade of buff (not sure if I’m using the word “shade” correctly). I also added some silver, blue and quite a bit of water. I was surprised it didn’t turn out a hot mess!
I’m just going to keep going! I will read blogs, take a few online classes and try to trust my ability to look and see with increasing skill!

    1. Yesssss!! That’s exactly the way of watercolor! hehe Just keep right on doing it until you and paint learn how to paint together! It’s so unruly, but in that good way, like a smart little child. 😉💕 And you got the last palette of the day! I think I have you address already, right? So I’ll have them send you one!

    1. Aww hey there Nicole my friend!!! So happy to see you here! And you CAN swish a masterpiece!!! You just have to DO it! 😉💕 hehe (and yeah, no more palettes today, but if you do want a sample, check back each day this month!)

  4. Lovely doodlewash! Haha – hmm, I think you did get just about every limb 😉 There are quite a few of these guys on the rivers and seaside around here, and, as far as crabs go, he is pretty adorable; he can come and give me a nip anytime he likes!

Hopefully it won’t be eighteen years until your next trip to the beach!
