Day 5 - World Watercolor Month - Pouring Water Into Glass - Doodlewash

World Watercolor Month – Day 5 – A Cold Glass Of Water

After seeing the prompt today of “summer skies” my mind leapt to the color blue and the sheer amount of water I end up drinking in the heat of summer. So, I grabbed all 3 blues in my palette and a bit of neutral tint, with a bit of water, of course to make a glass. As many of you know, I enjoy using prompts for daily painting, but I don’t always take them literally. I prefer to just let my mind wander to wherever it wants to take me. The deep blue skies of summer are indeed beautiful. With those giant white clouds that look like various animals if you squint at them just right. As a kid, I could spend hours looking for shapes in the sky. Well, not hours, as I was a super impatient kid, but what felt like blissful hours to me, at least. I just didn’t want to miss anything and always had so many ideas brewing in my head that I wanted to try next. That much hasn’t changed I guess, and I still love to find the shapes in every cloud I see!

I’ve always been a dreamer. I love to imagine things that I would love to see happen. Like founding World Watercolor Month™, so that every watercolor artist on the planet might come together and share their love of the medium. And in my dream, I saw good things happening and thought that we could also help those in need in the process. That’s why I hope to raise awareness for The Dreaming Zebra Foundation this month and get art supplies to kids who need them. Our sponsors are donating supplies, of course, but my sincere hope is that each and every one of you reading this will consider making a donation in honor of the month. I remember being that little kid, staring at shapes in the sky and wanting to create things. I was lucky enough to have access to the art supplies I needed to do it, but not everyone is as fortunate. Another way to help support the cause is by purchasing fun World Watercolor Month souvenirs by clicking here (100% of proceeds go to The Dreaming Zebra Foundation!).

And as it turns out now, I have something to give to you in EVERY post this month, so be sure to check in each day. Today, I have another item from Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff. This is an American Journey Artists’ Watercolor Nomad Set that’s compact and awesome!  To mix things up a bit and make sure things are fair. For today, I’ll be awarding 10 of these to anyone who hasn’t yet received a free sample of any kind from me this month! (don’t worry if you’ve already gotten a sample and want this one, it will be back!) So, comment below with “Cheap Joe’s is great!” if you haven’t yet received a sample this month and would like one. And feel free to comment with other things, of course, as I always love hearing from you! Your feedback always makes me super happy, like a cold glass of water on a hot summer day!

    1. Thank you for your beautiful illustrations and generosity in these giveaways. I look forward to reading your insightful stories every day– you are so inspiring.

    1. Also I love seeing your daily watercolor sketches; they inspire me to try sketching some of the more mundane or random things, even when I’m busy! Thank you for all that you do!

  1. My art supplies way back then consisted of crayons, a cheap set of watercolors with that awful plastic brush and a pencil…I even drew on notebook paper or construction paper and was happy as a clam. Not knowing about better supplies like the kids do these days. gawd, I’m old.

    1. Yeah, the best art supplies were indeed any you can get your hands on as a kid. It’s still true for many kids today… that why I really hope this month helps some to them! (LOL and being old is great! Sooooo many more wonderful memories!!)😉💕

  2. Charlie I love your posts and all the effort you have put into this month especially trying to raise awareness for the Dreaming Zebra foundation. I remember many childhood days spent coloring and finding shapes in clouds. I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my world watercolor totebag.

  7. Charlie, I so love how you interpret prompts! When I saw the water, I was trying to remember what the day’s prompt is – and laughed out loud to see it’s “summer skies”. Of course ( : You are the undisputed master of Doodlewashed glass and liquids – and of creating wonderful things like World Watercolor Month and the Doodlewash community.

    1. Aww what a nice comment! Thank you so much, Ellie!! 😃💕 hehe.. yeah, since I both tell a story and illustrate, it’s often more of a story prompt for me and then I make an illustration to fit the story! Or the other way around… it’s really a mix! lol

  8. Cheap Joes is great! I haven’t won anything yet but sure do enjoy your writings and illustrations! Watercolor month celebration is a great idea.

    1. Thanks so much, Leada!! 😃 Glad you’re enjoying World Watercolor Month!! Yay!! And all my samples are gone for this post, but check back each day (or subscribe by putting you email in the sidebar where it says receive post notifications! hehe)
