Day 15 - #WorldWatercolorGroup - Hazy Glass of Milk - Half Full - #doodlewash

A Glass Half Full

There wasn’t a lot of time to paint today and less time to even decide what to paint, sometimes the toughest part. When faced with a prompt of “hazy” a lovely foggy landscape came to mind, but since I’m not a landscape painter, this was not an option. Ultimately, I ended up with just a simple little glass of milk in today’s little 30 minute painting session. I only drink almond milk these days, as the cow kind doesn’t seem to like me, even though I’ve nothing personal against it. As a kid visiting my grandmother’s farm I’m quite aware of how an animal gets milked, I’m just not sure how they manage the same on a tiny almond, but sometimes it’s best to not ask questions. And looking at the result now, I see a glass half full, as I always do. This is my pesky optimism at work, assuming that everything, somehow, will always work out just fabulously. Things don’t always, of course, but I’ve found that assuming they will actually works much of the time.

I’m not sure where my optimism comes from. I don’t know whether this is an inherited trait or something that comes from the way one is raised. Either way, I always tend to see the brighter side of things. Even my stint in corporate America was made more tolerable with this wonderful trait. Hearing someone say some ghastly and stupid in a meeting, I would stop and look for any little trace of wisdom that might be hiding there. I was determined to live by the mantra that everyone has something to teach me. I think this is why I’m always drawn to creating communities of people from vastly different background. For example, this site is a bit of a hodgepodge of every single thing anyone has thought to do with watercolor. I love that! I think it’s incredibly important to look around and see what others are doing, even if how they do it is very different from me.

So with that idea driving me, I’m about to embark on a new adventure. I have a stupidly ambitious vision for Doodlewash and to make it happen, the first step will be converting to a new site design. I’ve decided to start this insane endeavour tomorrow, so you might see some changes, and some major issues for a bit as I attempt to accomplish it. I’m an illustrator, not a programmer, so this is truly beyond my scope, but I’m excited to take on the challenge. Thanks in advance for bearing with me. Little Charlie is in charge for a moment and he has big dreams and a certainty that they will all come true. Yep, my inner child has taken over for a bit and I’m bound and determined to make something incredibly cool happen. There may be a few bumps along the way, but I’m not too worried about that. In the end, it’s not a big deal, it’s simply a glass half full.

  1. As I drink my own milk (in a mug though, sadly), I obviously say cheers to this! And I’ve got my hard hat on waiting for the old to come down, and the new up! 😉 Very exciting.

    1. hehe! Thanks, Jacob! 😃💕 Yeah, I think a hard hat is a good idea this time around… hehe… building websites is so much harder than watercolor! And that’s saying something! lol But darn it… there shall be zonkeys!!!

  2. Excited to see the changes.
And there is nothing wrong with optimism! Most of the time I am a pessimest, but then on the other hand I do have a depression so being an optimist is very hard to do most of the time. I am on my way to defeat the depression and become a very happy optimist like you!
    loved reading this 🙂

    1. Thanks so much!! 😃💕 Aww… I’m so happy you enjoyed reading this. I know depression can be a very tough thing to conquer. I truly believe that anything is possible. We can do such amazing things!! We just have to keep trying!!

  3. Little Charlie at the helm! I can’t think of anything more wonderful or exciting. Looking forward to where you are heading and happy to be a long for the journey!
