A Green Beer and Potatoes Mood

Day 17 - #WorldWatercolorGroup - Green Beer and Potatoes Mood - #doodlewash

Since today is St. Patrick’s Day, and I’m rather Irish, I guess it’s only fitting that this would be the mood I’ve found myself in today. Actually, I’m not having potatoes today or green beer, for that matter, as I think the latter is a bit ridiculous and likely toxic, but I love the idea of it. The celebratory feel and the glowing green of the beer, which happens to be one of my favorite colors (I can’t ever seem to stick with a single favorite when it comes to color). Walking down the street in the city today, I saw lots of folks decked out in their wildest green attire. There were several women wearing furry green and white boots while sporting shamrock antennae, which made them look fabulously ridiculous and ready to party. It also made them look like alien creatures, which I’m still stumped as to why that’s particularly Irish. I’m pretty sure my people were from the same planet. But the mood of the day is contagious and says, “let’s be mad as a box of frogs, head our for a craic, get absolutely plastered, and come home feeling like boiled shite.” On second thought, I think it’s far more enjoyable to be simply spending a quiet evening at home.

May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you are going, and the insight to know when you have gone too far.

~ Irish Blessing ~

As a kid, we had a book of Irish sayings both traditional along with famous quotes, which I always enjoyed reading. Mainly because all of the insightful tidbits were happily drowning in irony and bits of sarcasm. Well beyond the typical “May the luck of the Irish be with you!” were more useful gems. Blessings that spoke volumes in wit and sincerity like “as you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never point the wrong way.” Important bits of wisdom that would help me later in life like, “If you want praise, die. If you want blame, marry.” Or the sweeter look on relationships of “It’s easy to halve the potato where there’s love.” Though I was, of course, years away from finding love at that young age. It’s strange, but that little book was very memorable to me. It was more a testament to the my family’s personality and how we definitely lived by the rule that “a good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.”

I’ve kept this spirit my entire life and I think it’s made life much more enjoyable. I don’t really get stressed by things as I have a ridiculous optimism that luck will definitely come my way. And even when it doesn’t, I just laugh it off and move on, as not everything is meant to be in this life and that’s just fine as well. But if we keep smiling and keep our hearts light and our attitudes positive then luck always has a way of finding us. So many opportunities are waiting for us just around the corner, a four-leaf clover away from making a dream come true. And the secret is, you don’t really have to be Irish to experience the luck o’ the Irish. You just have to adopt a wise look on life that comes with a healthy dose of wit that puts you in a ridiculously happy place one might describe as a green beer and potatoes mood.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and may the luck of the Irish and the wit and wisdom always be lining your pockets and soul – no fool’s gold required 😉

May you live as long as you want, And never want as long as you live. An Irish toast.
    Happy St Paddy’s Day Charlie!

Despite that today would be my dad’s 95th birthday and that he loved the color green and corned beef and cabbage, and perhaps because we aren’t Irish at all, but I totally forgot to wear green. I do have green eyes though, so I think that makes me permanently green and part of the extended Leprechaun kin. So here’s to pots o’ gold at the end of rainbows and four leaf clovers along everyone’s path and Irish jigs to keep our heart rates up and soda bread and green bagels because we gotta eat – your upbeat attitude has worn onto to me. Thank you, Charlie, it feels good. (Green beer? I can’t drink it any color, but green? It’s pretty, but…)

Awww, glad my attitude was contagious, Sharon!! 😃💕🍀 Hope you had a wonderful day… wearing green is optional as far as I’m concerned. Green eyes definitely count! But yeah, stay away from the green beer though… it’s just weird! lol

Ditto Sharon’s comment above. I was smiling at the green aliens walking the streets of NYC too…on their way to some green beer, no doubt. (K)

Thanks, Kerfe! 😃💕🍀 Yep… they were totally looking like aliens and I’m pretty sure they are the only ones who would try the green beer. hehe
