Written by Tonight was one of those evenings where I looked at the clock and thought, wow, it’s that late already?! I hadn’t sketched a thing yet, so I quickly doodled this little leaf in honor of the prompt for today. Being on Thanksgiving break makes me lose all sense of time in the most wonderful of ways. I slept in a bit this morning and so the entire has been thrown off in a way that gleefully doesn’t matter at all. Well, sleeping in at my age means being in bed still at 7am. And when I awoke, it was sunny and unseasonably warm here today. This did nothing, of course, to dissuade me from getting into the official start of the Christmas season, and we already started playing some holiday music as we ate our Thanksgiving leftovers this evening. Since there was only two of us for the feast yesterday, the leftovers were literally everything we ate last night and it was just as fantastic the second time around.
I had to squeeze this little doodlewash and post in just before dessert rather than before dinner, since I lost track of time, so I’m typing faster than ever tonight. Philippe made the most artful and delicious apple pie, which I’ll be trying to capture in doodlewash form as I think we’re adding it to the illustrated cookbook we’re making. Oh yes, that’s still happening, and we spent much of the afternoon pulling it together. Like most grand ideas, it’s a few hundred times more difficult to make happen in reality than it did in my mind, but it’s all coming together nicely, if not a bit belated. Our plan is to have a few limited edition hardcover editions as well as an e-book available soon. Since the stuffing Philippe made yesterday was so fabulous, it’s been added to the book as well. It’s just a tiny square tome, with only 10 recipes, but it will hopefully be something people will enjoy.
It’s been a fun couple of days that felt like a weekend and the weekend is just officially beginning! That’s the best feeling of all! And I’m trying to use the extra bit of time to do things that I’ve been needing to get done, like the cookbook, but I’m so easily distracted it’s often difficult to do. I love to bounce from each thing to the next, inching each goal forward as I go. This is probably not the best approach anything at all, but it’s the only way I know. Thankfully, these little daily doodlewash dashes require me to focus on and complete at least one little thing each day. It’s been a wonderful exercise and something that at the very least, always feels like a bit of an accomplishment. I envy those who always have a plan when they start something and can maintain focus while doing so. I’ll instead always be that guy doing everything at once in a frenzy that doesn’t come with a lot of logic. Just a lot of ideas blowing in the wind, like a little leaf.

A leaf is a kind of fleeting perfection much like your painting. I’m glad that you are enjoying your time off. Hubby and I had breakfast out and a movie this afternoon. Like you, he’s enjoying the extra days off!
