Faced with a prompt of “flaky” today, I initially thought that’s how I’m feeling lately, but then I, of course, thought of pie. I’ve been feverishly trying to get everything up and running on my new site, so it was nice to just stop and splash some paint around. This is a very loose and quick sketch of a slice of cherry pie that I, once again, only wish was sitting in front of me. I tried to just let the watercolor do whatever it liked this time without trying to control it too much. So, this is what it decided to do today. Completely off-topic, Philippe bought us both fidget cubes, those little squares that you can click, push and turn to help with stress. He was using his while I was painting and I realized that it’s really just like a human equivalent of a dog toy. Something that seems quite fun when you buy it, but after it’s used by the intended recipient, you’re ready to snatch it up again and hide it in a closet. That said, it’s still really entertaining and therapeutic for the person using it, so I do actually recommend trying one. Fidgeting, as it turns out, can actually be rather enjoyable.

My mind has been a bit scattered lately, as I try to work out all the kinks on my new site. If you’re one of the early adopters who attempted to register, you might have noticed the sign in fields are now missing. As it turns out, since I’m on the WordPress.com platform, I can’t truly register people on this site by itself. The upside is, I think I’ve found a workaround by simply letting people log in immediately with whatever social network they prefer! I’ve activated three so far, but will hopefully be able to add a few more in the future. If you experience any problems, please just send me a note by clicking the little mail icon in the lower right corner of your screen. It’s all a big experiment and I truly appreciate your help in getting it to work correctly. The hope is that we’ll soon be able to add and share tips, conversations, and, of course, beautiful art, right here on Doodlewash! If you’ve successfully logged in, try changing your cover photo or clicking on “Media” in your profile and uploading some of your art!

Much more is coming, but these are the first baby steps into the wonderful unknown. My hope is that, like everything I’ve been creating, this is something we can build together. Things may be a bit bumpy along the way, but at least I now have a Fidget Cube to get me through it all. Seriously, it’s actually rather awesome. I’ve been playing with it in between sentences, which might not be a great thing if this ramble is meant to be anything approaching coherent. But now, I finally get why all those dogs are so engrossed with their toys. Or even better, it’s like being a little child again. Happily playing with whatever is there and fascinated by each little twist and click. It strikes me that no matter what happens, it will always be the little things in this crazy life that enthrall me. Sure, trying to build a little social media corner just for art is a little ambitious, but it’s just another little thing to try in the end. No matter how big an idea seems, it’s really just a matter of putting it into motion. After that, things will somehow work themselves out and, in the end, I always find it’s really never more impressive than a simple cherry pie.

    1. That’s the sweetest thing to hear! Thank you so much, Jackie! 😃💕 I’m so thrilled! It’s tough so days to squeeze in the time to make it happen, so it make my heart smile to know you enjoy them!

  1. That pie may be quickly done, but it looks so yummy that, if it were real and here, it would be quickly *gone*!
Thank you for the lovely posts and pictures that brighten each day for me.

    1. Thanks so much!! 😃💕 That’s so sweet of you to say! And yeah… I paint desserts from photos, even when they’re sitting in front of me. I can’t leave them alone long enough to paint them! 😊lol

  2. I love cherry pie but have not had any in ages. Your painting is tempting me to break the cherry pie drought.

What is the link to the login page of the whole group thingy that I somewhat accidentally registered for? I would like to keep a note of it / bookmark it so I can find it again when I have (I hope) some free time to actually participate rather than spectate for once.

    1. Thanks, Laura! 😃💕 Yeah, I’m still setting up all the various features. This phase is mainly about setting up profiles first. They’ll be groups and forums coming and primarily the World Watercolor Group on Doodlewash which is here: https://doodlewash.com/groups/world-watercolor-group/ – so you can join if you’re logged in! I’ll be creating a proper community home page explaining it all soon, but taking it one step at a time because I’m far better at illustrating than programming! hehe 😊

  3. Testing the new profile picture here? It’s showing in the menu so let’s hope it appears here, too! Fabulously rich cherry pie, yet more cravings and envy – and I do like the sound of a fidget cube!

    1. Hehe… yep, you’re a zonkey on Doodlewash at least! You may still be Jacob on other sites, but here you’re full on zonkey which is kind of awesome! 😃💕And yes! The fidget cube is brilliant… you should try it!

    1. hehe… Yeah, I honestly thought about drawing it, but it didn’t fit with the prompt! Lol 😃💕 That’s why I provided links to the real thing in the article. It’s tiny, but packs a punch for people who get fidgety. hehe

  4. Hi!
Nice post! I’m making posts about scientific explanations behinde everyday appearance, so if you have time and will please go and check it out! If you like it please follow me, I follow you.
    Thank you! 😀
