Day 29 - Tropical Drink Watercolor - #doodlewashJune2018 Doodlewash

A Tropical Drink On A Hot Summer Day

When the weather gets as hot as it is today where I am, the only umbrella that comes to mind is the one sticking out of an ice cold tropical drink. A beach would be lovely as well where you could dive into the water and get another refreshing break from the sun. Sadly, I don’t actually have access to either so I just have this little fantasy doodlewash. But, something definitely very cool is starting this weekend when World Watercolor Month kicks off again! Join me as we paint through 31 days of watercolor! The global watercolor celebration actually starts tomorrow for many of my friends in the world where it’s already Saturday now. So I hope you’ll be kicking us all off in style by posting and tagging #WorldWatercolorMonth so we can all see what you share in our global gallery! (Facebook no longer pulls hashtags, so if you’re there, simply add your paintings to our Facebook Group! And you’re certainly invited to log in with Facebook and share your paintings right on Doodlewash.com via Doodlewash Club!). I still have one more day to go with our June challenge and if you do as well, add #WorldWatercolorMonth tomorrow and you’ll already be a watercolor ahead! Pro tip!

I’ve been busy preparing for all the festivities coming in July, which include a ton of awesome giveaways (bookmark this page and check it regularly as new giveaways will be appearing often!). I think that’s pretty much all the updates, so now back to our regularly scheduled programming of rambling about tropical drinks. In truth, I haven’t had a drink like this in years, favoring a simple glass of wine. But if I’m on a beach, I’ll definitely have one. It’s like a little party in a glass and even if it’s ordered by someone else, the mere presence at the table makes me smile. I feel like this time of year I’m always running a bit behind with things and trying to catch up, so it’s nice to take a little break and dream of well… taking a little break! But when it comes to sketching and painting each day, I just can’t stop because it actually is my little break each and every day. I can enjoy wonderful fantasy drinks and desserts and even take a moment to connect with birds or goldfish. All within my trusty little sketchbook where you’ll always find me sketching stuff each and every day.

I’m not sure if anything I’ve ever created would be considered a masterpiece, but I think when you take the more than 1,090 sketches and stories I’ve posted here in less than three years, that surely must add up to something rather notable. I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish with this blog, taking me places I couldn’t have dreamed it would ever go. But, I’m equally happy that it simply did exactly what I wanted it to do in the first place and keep me sketching and writing each and every day. I’ve amassed a word count equal to more than a dozen novels and though not every post is a glistening story in itself, they’re all part of one big story that I’m always in the act of telling. The main theme is simply the motto and manifesto of this site – DO! I wrote and posted this manifesto just one week after I started painting for the first time with watercolor and I’ve never once changed it. And on days when I feel overwhelmed or even a touch discouraged, I still return to it, like a tropical drink on a hot summer day.

  1. Without any doubt we all are proud of you and thankful to you for so much you have contributed to the watercolor artist community. Ohh yes and this year also I will be joining the 31 days challenge ✌🏼 thanks to you friend!

    1. Aww thanks, Snehal!! 😃💕 That’s so sweet of you to say! And I’m SO thrilled to hear that you’re joining in for World Watercolor Month, my friend!! Yay! I love your work!! Can’t wait to see what you’ll make!

    1. You are the sweetest! 😃💕 I should have all of your comments recorded so I can listen to them again on days when I’m feeling less inspired. You always make me feel like what I’m doing by showing up each day is important. I really can’t thank you enough for that.

    1. Yeah it’s quite a lot when I think about it! 😃💕 Wondering what the current record is or if I’ve already beaten it! lol So thrilled for World Watercolor Month! Hope you’ll be joining us, Anita!

    1. Aww thanks, friend! 😃💕 I’m just so proud to have befriended so many awesome artists like yourself. I’m rather sure that’s the entire reason I’m able to keep showing up each and every day! 😉

  2. I really enjoy your posts and lovely watercolour works! Thank you for organising these watercolour events. I mentioned on a post today that I was participating (at least trying to do a daily painting, as often as possible!) in the WorldWatercolourMonth challenge, and put in a link to the info page about it. Thanks again… All the best, Janette 🙂

    1. Yes!! That’s so awesome!! Thrilled you’re participating, Janette! 😃💕 And so happy you enjoy my posts. That’s makes me smile. And World Watercolor Month is such a great event. It’s not easy to paint each and every day, but WAY more fun when you do it all together! 😉

  3. In just the short time I have signed up for your blog, you have inspired me. I have never posted any of my work on social media, except in a FB private group of friends. You are my pusher off the diving board tomorrow! Feeling excited and anxious all at the same time. Thank you for sharing your stories and your beautiful work everyday.

    1. Hehe!! That just made me SO happy!! Yay! Thrilled to push you off that diving board my friend! 😃💕 Share away! I’ve found with my own little doodlewashes (some painted SO quickly they are barely more than a study) that not every work I post is enjoyed broadly, but every single one finds at least someone who smiled because they saw it. And that’s why I show up each and every day!

  4. It’s pretty darn hot here, so I could certainly go for this!

“I’m not sure if anything I’ve ever created would be considered a masterpiece” What about Cliché Day? There’s surely no other word 😉 Three years is beyond remarkable; I struggled with twenty-six days, so I doff my cap to you!

    1. Aww thanks, Jacob! 😃💕 Yeah, I’m not sure at this point if I have an art habit or an art obsession, but either way, I’m having a blast! And yeah, I think that could quite possibly be my one and only masterpiece. Stay tuned, by the way, the new thing I’m revealing soon will feature that post! 😉

  5. Too hot here so definitely go for this drink.
Congratulations 💐🌸💐🥀🌼🙏 for three years hard work. Thanks so much dear friend for your long journey which u have shared with us. Through art.I am also proud of to be part of this.
