Many of you said Bear for the next letter of our alphabet and I realized I’d only ever sketched teddy bears so I decided to doodlewash a real bear. My good friend Jodi’s suggestion was clever and much more specific. Her fun suggestion was a “big burly bear being brushed” but my attempt to Google reference photos for this turned up a series of hirsute, muscley gentleman with a penchant for minimalist leather attire. I’m not particuarly good at sketching people, so I moved on to “baby bear” as a search query instead.

This led us to this North American brown bear, often referred to as a grizzly bear. Though this one is just a little cub right now, a brown bear can grow as tall as seven feet and weigh up to 350-700 pounds depending on gender. That’s a lot of bear! When you think about it, I guess it’s not terribly dissmilar to what appears in humans these days. Although I’m quite sure you won’t find this bear requiring a Costco mobility scooter to hunt for meat, as he’s horribly unlikely to ever shop there.

I’ve always thought bears were awesome, but probably because I had a lot of teddy bears when I was a kid. I only saw real bears at the zoo and you couldn’t hug them properly so I preferred my stuffed versions. I rather like this doodlewash adventure because all the easy letters with lots of options are at the beginning. Next up is C, so please shout out anything that comes to mind in the comments!

  1. Sweet brown baby bear, Charlie! 😃👍🎨 And thanks for the laugh about your Google search! 😜 Since you think clowns are creepy, I won’t suggest them but what about a cute, cuddly cat? Hehe! 🐱🐾

  2. Oh Charlie, how hugely disappointed I was to see ‘Bear’ in my e-mails, to open it and find no hirsute men. 😉 Thankfully, your bear cub is a delight in itself! He looks playful fierce – at least I hope it’s playful, especially after noting the claws – and a little possessive. Very powerful.

The bear would probably be more ruly than most Costco customers 😉

C is for Crystals (Maze or otherwise)! Cookies! Canary! Chipmunk! Castle! Celestial body! Charlie O’Shields!!!

    1. Lol…yeah it was a bit of a tease if you were expecting the Google search. It was actually fairly tame considering what could have popped up. Glad you liked my bear cub! I think he does want to play…or bite…not entirely sure really. And of course you’d vote Crystal! Hehe😉 I honestly wasn’t sure how to handle all the suggestions…to be honest I think I’m just waiting for the easiest one. 😊lol I have so little time to doodlewash lately.

      1. He’s ridiculously cute, whatever his demeanour! And of course I’d suggest crystal! Though, thinking about it, I’m not sure if Time Crystal belongs to C or T. But I’m disappointed in myself that I said cookie but not Cookie Monster, as Kari did – that would be so awesome!

You don’t make it look as if you’re pushed for time!

  3. What a BEAUTIFUL Baby Burly Bear! And Oh how funny what my suggestion brought up in a google search – hmmm – was it a subliminal message? LOL! Such a sweet, cute doodlewash! Love him Charlie! (and you!) 🙂

    1. Lol…I just had to try it to see what came up and I wasn’t disappointed! Hilarious!! Thanks friend!! 😉❤️😃It gave me a good laugh. But I got pretty close minus the brush I guess. Unless you were meaning the other kind in which case I also missed the leather entirely. Lol Love ya back!

  4. Ahahahaha…your Google search is killing me! I can just picture what sorts of questionable photos that brought up! 😀 Thank you for not doodlewashing any hirsute men in leather. LOL!! And I love your little bear! If you get a chance, check out the picture book, Finding Winnie (speaking of bear). It is pretty awesome, too, like your painting! <3

  5. Okay the bear is cute and all but what about the baboon on a bike? I feel cheated, not even a mention of a baboon…and you expect me to turn the page to “c”… I think not! Okay fine, “c” is for baboon the poor CHEATED character that was not placed in B…baboon… Yes your bear is adorable and fitting…fine.

    1. Haha! 😊😊So sorry Cathe. Your suggestion was the hands down winner, but too hard for this doodlewasher in the 25 minutes I had today. Hehe… I will owe you one baboon on a bike one day. Because it sounds super fun to try!! Lol Glad you liked the consolation prize😊❤️

  6. I was visiting a friend who lived in the mountains in Georgia and we were walking along near her house and…in person they are huge! We slowly changed our direction. Your little Guy is cute, but I still wouldn’t want to shake hands!
Cat is obvious. And always garners plenty of likes in my experience. (K)

    1. “…walking along near her house and…in person they are huge!…” Yes, houses usually are huge, unless they’re tiny houses (yeah, I like watching the Tiny Houses program)…LOL.

  7. This is adorable! And I’m sure so much better than whatever the first Google search turned up… 😛

I do love the cat idea… Another fun one that comes to mind is the board game Clue. Although C also stands for Charlie, maybe a self portrait? 🙂

  8. Lol about your search! You may claim you don’t do people well but I bet your other bear would have been cute too. Hehe. My vote for C would be, “C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me…” I would either like a cookie or the Cookie Monster! 😊

  9. I love this little guy! Great doodlewash Charlie.
Your google search had me laughing out loud and giggling to myself moments later.
For C, words like comet, constellation, caravan, camel, citrus and chocolate chip cookies! come to mind…

  10. This brings back fond memories. When Dad worked at the zoo, sometimes he would let me feed bread slices to the grizzly bear. I had to stand behind a line drawn on the floor, stretch out my hand – barely holding onto the bread and the bear had to stick his tongue waaaay out to get it. He was fairly mild-mannered for a grizzly, but Dad was’t taking the chance that I might look more tasty to him than the bread, lol. Love the way you did the fur on your cub!
