Day 12 - #WorldWatercolorGroup Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work or School Day

Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work Day

The second Wednesday of each October, apparently people I’ve never met celebrate a day to bring your teddy bear to work (or school) with you. This sounds super fun but unfortunately, I forgot to bring my teddy bear to work with me today and so instead, we have a doodlewash of one waiting patiently for the bus. Also, and more importantly for me, it’s Philippe’s birthday today, so this one was super speedy as I need to move on to the festivities shortly. That said, I’m sure if my teddy bear had joined me today, he may have been a bit bored, since most, but not all, of what I do requires opposable thumbs. And I would have probably been envious of his strange ability to keep a perpetual smile on his face, regardless of impending deadlines and trying to decipher what someone meant in an email. But for any of you who remembered to bring your teddy bear to work, I hope it was a joyful and productive day. Certainly less stressful than bring your child to work day, as your teddy bear won’t quietly judge you for having a rather boring job.

I absolutely loved teddy bears as a child and would collect jointed teddy bears whenever I could find them. Mostly little ones or the ones that my mother would make for me for Christmas. Some of them are still at my mother’s house and used as Christmas decorations, and others have simply disappeared. I never brought my teddy bears to school with me though, as it would have brought quite a bit of teasing. The acceptable time for teddy bears is rather short for male children and this is sad and unfortunate. Mine would sit quietly at home waiting for me to return, keeping my secret tucked safely behind their glassy little eyes. But that was just fine as I didn’t really feel like sharing them. Sometimes it’s nice to have something personal and private that you keep just for yourself.

It’s off to birthday celebrating now, so I’ll have to cut this post short as Philippe has gifts to open! Technically, since he was born in Paris, his birthday ended at 5pm our time, but we managed a card and toast just before the clock struck midnight there. I splashed some paint and made this post and now we’re ready to finish the evening which includes champagne and lots of chocolat. Diet be damned when it’s birthday time! I think my teddy bear will have to sit this one out though. He’s never been able to hold his liquor.

  1. Happy birthday to Philippe.
A cutie bear for sure. He’s probably angry with you for not bringing him to work.
My favorite bear was given to me by my husband when we were on vacation. The bear is dark brown so I call him ‘Chocolate Bear’. Teddy bears are so lovable!

  2. Adorable! I still have the teddy bear that my parents gifted me as a newborn. It’s flat as a pancake and has a singed bottom but he’s one of my most treasured possessions.

Happy Birthday to Philippe! Have fun celebrating.

  3. Happy Birthday Philippe !! I didn’t heard about htis Teddy bear’s day, for sure if you do it in US, it must be fun in the morning to see adult people with it in their arms ;))) Or perhaps they hide it in the workcase or bag ! ah ah!!

  4. Your teddy bear looks beary happy! Lol! 😃 Are you sure he didn’t have some champagne? 🍾🌟 Hope Philippe had a happy birthday! 😊💕 Now I know why you are drinking sparkling water today! Lol! 💚😄

  5. A very belated bon anniversaire to Philippe! And what a fun day to celebrate – sadly I have neither a bear nor a job, so am not really equipped to take part! I wish I still had my bear, Dinner, though. I have vague recollections of a Bring Your Teddy Bear to School day – possibly a Teddy Bear’s picnic? – which he went to when I was about four. I can’t remember if it was joyous or just a competition (not that it’d have mattered – he was the best!)

    1. Thanks, Jacob! I’ll let Philippe know! 😃 And yeah… I remember the teddy bear picnic… mainly because there was a song about it! hehe But I don’t know of anyone who actually brings their bear to work. It didn’t even happen when I worked at Hallmark, so I’m not sure who celebrates this! hehe
