Written by When I created the “bubbles” prompt, I was thinking about blowing soap bubbles, yet when it appeared today, the first thing that came to mind was bubbly water with limes. So, we have a 3-color doodlewash of simply that for today’s entry. I’ve mentioned before on my blog about getting a Sodastream for Christmas and my general love of bubbly water. I also thought of champagne, of course, as that’s another bit of bubbly I really enjoy. But after drinking glass after glass of it in Paris, a simple bit of water with lime seemed more refreshing. I do actually love blowing bubbles as well, but I’m also rather fond of limes and the color green so that’s what I chose to paint with today. And bubbly water is just more fun to drink than the still variety. Though, granted, the use of a straw is highly likely to create a large burp, but that’s also part of the fun!
When I was a kid, I had a friend who could drink a soda and say complete sentences inside a single long burp. One might assume this was a boy thing to do, but it was actually the girl up the street. She could burp better than anyone on the block and once even managed to burp the entire alphabet after just a single sip of Sprite. She was my hero. Tried as I might, I was never able to sustain a burp long enough to do anything impressive. Mine just seemed pedestrian and not particularly exciting. Now, of course, I’ve learned that such burping is impolite and childish. But sometimes, when I’m alone and nobody is nearby to judge me, I still try to speak burp just to see if perhaps age has come with amazing new gifts. Sadly, it hasn’t, and I’m still woefully untalented when it could comes to that, but it doesn’t stop me from trying.
Those little things that were fun as kids, often disappear entirely when we grow up. Whether it’s blowing bubbles or burping your way through them, so many things fall away when we reach adulthood. I think that’s why I often try to do things that seem a bit childish. The funny thing is, each time I do, I discover it’s just as fun as it was back then. The things that made me laugh and smile when I was too little to know any better, still have a way of doing so as I grow older. Though today, I’m resisting the urge to burp while drinking champagne, life hasn’t really changed all that much. The little kid inside who is always curious and wanting to try new things and delight in the tried and true ones is still with me. And I’m so glad he is. Burps and all. In the end, I don’t think I would be very happy if I had to experience the sad misfortune of actually growing up.

Love this refreshing doodlewash Charlie, and I did giggle away while reading about the girl up the road with her amazing talent…I wonder if she can still burp the alphabet? I like yourself could not achieve a single word, but I did not practice the speaking while burping, maybe if we had of had a superstar burper down the road I may have felt the competitive streak and got practicing more. I did however love some hubba bubba gum, and I could blow some fantastic bubbles with the gum. You don’t see adults walking down the streets blowing bubble gum, but you do often see them chewing gum, I wonder how many wish it was bubble gum, just so they could experience that bubble go bang, and cover their nose and eyes with pink slime that has been chewed for hours. I used to love nicking a bit from my daughter when she had been to the sweet shop, even she thinks at 19 she is too old to blow pink bubbles in public. But the thril of blowing big bubbles, and screaming to someone ‘ did you see that one, it was huge’ is sadly just for the cats ears within the four walls only 😂😂😂
