I celebrated this day last year, just because the specificity of it amuses me. This is a day to enjoy not just any carbonated beverage, but only the ones that include caffeine, which limits the list a bit. I’ve chosen an ice cold cola for my beverage, but I suppose you could have opted for Mountain Dew. I didn’t, because I can’t stand the taste of that particular soda and prefer something more like 7Up instead. But, unfortunately that drink doesn’t qualify for the day’s celebration. True be told, I rarely drink soda and opt for sparkling water, but since this day was so specific, I figured I should honor it with a doodlewash. It’s late again here in Paris, but thanks to the wonders of a persistent internal clock, I’m up and painting again before finally heading to sleep. Though I guess on a day like today, I can simply blame it on the caffeine.
If you’ve been following along with this blog, many of you will know that I mostly just love bubbles in drinks. I can do without the caffeine in these and beyond water, you’ll also find champagne at the top of my list. Since I’m currently in Paris, I was able to easily check off both of these loves on the first day here. But even though I had very little time for this sketch, it was a fabulous excuse to indulge in my watercolor painting love of glass and other transparent things. Sketching food is blast, but when I get to add a little manmade shininess into the mix, it’s even more fun.
Since we’re here in Paris, I’m not sure we’ll be able to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, so I might continue following the upcoming prompts to celebrate vicariously. Though there may be no turkey and stuffing on the menu this year, I know they’ll be plenty of food and family which is truly the best part of the day anyway! Unless you include the inevitable nap that often comes after eating so much turkey in the middle of the day. So far, I’m sneaking time to relax and paint, but I’m still not sure what the week ahead will bring. I hope all of you in the States are preparing for a wonderful time with food and family ahead. As for me, I at least know the day will definitely include a bit of champagne.

BEAUTIFUL rendering of this cola! I didn’t know this holiday existed until I saw this, but it was definitely appropriate as quite a few caffeinated beverages got me through a long day today. 🙂 Hope you and yours have a fantastic Thanksgiving week!
Thanks so much, Annie! 😃💕 Glad you liked this! And yeah… I think there’s a day to celebrate just caffeine as well! hehe Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!
Great painting! The rendering of the shades in the cola, lightening where diluted by ice, is fantastic.
Aww thanks so much, Laura! 😃💕 So happy you liked this one!! Glassy things are so fun to paint!
I haven’t tried in years but I recall glass being very challenging to paint so I’m always impressed when you do so.
Thirst quenching. Well done.😉
Thanks so much, Susan! 😃💕
You are expert at glass, bubbles, reflections, and the nuance of color, even when it’s rather monotone. This is such a charming painting, Charlie. Hope everything is going well in Paris.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃 Glass and reflections are really a joy to paint, even though they’re challenging. And things are going well here. It’s always nice to spend time with family.💕
ready for an ad! well done
hehe!! Thanks, Suzala! 😃💕
Very good painting Charlie! Love the way you set it down, though I never drink what is inside the glass!😄
Thanks so much, Margriet! 😃💕 I don’t actually drink it either… just a doodlewash to celebrate the day! hehe
A top painting, you paint glass, bubbles and reflection, light distortion so well. I always think a glass of cola, with ice looks so nice, but I rarely have it, makes my teeth feel yuk! ❤️
Thanks, Rebecca! 😃💕 I agree… love the look, but I rarely have a soda these days. Too sweet!
How do you make a glass of cola with ice look so realistic and amazing? Incredible doodlewash! Is that an actual real day? Who thinks up these crazy things!
Thanks, Georgie! 😃💕 hehe… I love practicing glass painting. It’s fun to do… hope it’s showing improvements! And yeah, they have a day for absolutely everyting. Almost every day you can imagine. Except they didn’t have a World Watercolor Month, so I did make that one happen, of course! 😉
This one is gorgeous! 🙂
Awww thanks so much, Rebecca! 😃💕
Even if a Coca Cola (or Pepsi) will set you back €8 in a Parisian café, the combination of bubbles and caffeine is worth every centime, isn’t it. Lovely work, Charlie! I echo your other readers’ admiration of your realistic glass.
Thanks so much, Heather! 😃💕 yeah, a lot of things will set you back when eating out… hehe… that’s why we tend to cook at home a lot. So happy you liked this doodlewash!
Having just had dinner, I could so go for this right now! Love it! I must admit, it’s often Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day here; I do like a coke. Cherry Coke is the biggest weakness, although it doesn’t quite taste as it used to – perhaps they’ve made it safer!
I tried Mountain Dew once at university, as part of ‘research’ when we were trying to rebrand it. Never again.
Thanks, Jacob! 😃 Glad you liked this one and that you can celebrate the day properly! I remember drinking Cherry Coke, but haven’t in sooooo many years! hehe… I guess it’s a good thing if the taste isn’t as good now. And yeah… no to Mountain Dew… I think it was college that I tried it as well… trying to stay up for an exam. I’ll stick to espresso!!
I had to immediately see what choice of paints you used to paint your cola with caffeine because you did so well capturing the drink. I’m a Dr Pepper gal myself and that’s about my limit in bubbles.
hehe… yeah, I only drink bubbled water these days. And yeah, cola and chocolate… always a touch of red so it doesn’t look like mud! lol😉
