Written by Cereal is something that always reminds me of being a kid again. It was such a wonderful simple pleasure and being allowed to enjoy for dinner as well was a truly memorable experience. Those kind of experiences that feel a bit naughty and yet are oh, so right. Of course, choosing the right cereal was an extremely important task back then. Sure, the flavors mattered and, of course, the number of colors present, but the real decision-maker was the prize inside. I still remember my mother asking me, “Really? You’ve never like cocoa cereal before. Are you sure?” Oh… I was sure. Inside that box was the most amazing treasure one could ever hope to receive. Well, at least, in that particular moment, and when meticulously compared to all the other options present that day. Yes, it had to be that one. My mother was a saint for being willing to stand in the cereal aisle for so many wasted minutes while I perused each and every offering. I can only hope she realizes it was totally worth it.
I’m getting to the point where I’m starting to repeat myself with these stories, like that uncle at a family reunion. Though, many of you probably weren’t around when I started all of this so you might have missed some things. If that’s the case, then I should direct you to these musings on Raisin Bran as well as my thoughts on cereal for dinner. Mostly because I’ve no idea what else to say about this topic in this immediate moment. I’ll regale you instead with what’s happening right now. Philippe made apple cake and just served me a slice. I have just a sip of wine left over and the entire experience is wonderful and overwhelming. It’s like adult cereal. And yeah, it’s really that good! And just when I thought my rambles couldn’t be any more rambling, this happens. But that’s exactly the way I think life should be lived. Finding the fun in every little second, no matter how stupid it seems. This is how you can turn every ordinary moment into extraordinary. Just get caught up in it like a child. You’ll never be sad again.
And also, I should note that if you happen to pay attention to the menu for this site, you’ll see a new link called “Shop.” I’ve not launched a brand new line of products… just yet… but I have created a shop of all of the products I use and love. This is an effort on my part to help Doodlewash continue to grow and thrive. It’s no longer a blog, but a thriving community of watercolor artists. I don’t know how you manage to think of something to say every day, and even if you discuss the same thing, I bet you put a new spin on it. Hooray for the shop. Now I was just thinking today, that I HAD to stop buying art supplies. But I HAVE to support Doodlewash don’t I? How can my husband object to funds spend for art supplies that help fund this site. I mean …winner, winner!

What a delight when I read your comments, Charlie! Breakfast for dinner-yum! That has worked for me, too. Same as popcorn, for dinner. I just call them my lazy nights. It’s too funny because hubby and I were just discussing the memories of all the different cereals when we were growing up. And yes, our choice was based on what prize was offered in that box at that particular time! It was a battle with 3 brothers and me, being the only girl, with who got the toy. Oh, the good old days. This was a delightful image to see when I opened the page — love all of those details in the flakes. My favorite was Smurf Berry Crunch. I also liked Lucky Charms, but only for the marshmallows.
