Written by Another quick sketch I doodlewashed, this time we’re at the Château de Cheverny. Or a version of it at least. It’s another of my mad freewheeling episodes with just my trusty fountain pen and looks a bit wonky, but I guess it adds character? At any rate, the lines were so crazy that I had to keep the sky happy to avoid it looking like a haunted house. Although, now that I think of it, that could have been cool too.
The Belgian comic book creator Hergé used Cheverny as a model for his fictional “Château de Moulinsart” (Marlinspike Hall in English) in the The Adventures of Tintin books. In these books, the two outermost wings are not present, but the remaining central tower and two wings are almost identical. Completely random note here, but I didn’t like that they renamed the dog in the comics to Snowy in the English version. Milou is a much cuter name.
Since I’m doing one of these sketches a day for the month of August (#DrawingAugust to see more and cooler drawings than mine!), I guess I’ll end up with a rather full doodlewash tour of France. Only 24 more to go! (Geesh… that sounds like a lot) And later, when the opportunity comes back to visit France again, I’ll have already practiced and can hopefully be ready to sketch them all in person. Well not all of them… I’m going to have to “go” places I may never see to get all the reference I need for this thing.
