Written by Well it looks like I’m starting our brand new April Art Challenge of Spring Things with a hot cappuccino as it’s really chilly here. Or a bit of an April Fool’s joke depending on how you want to look at it. Apparently, Mother Nature didn’t realize this day was supposed to be sunny and warm and filled with butterflies. The weather folk had claimed the sun would finally show itself this weekend at one point, but it looks like that forecast has been moved to next weekend instead. I’m used to the “chance of rain” forecast this time of year, but I just keep hoping for a “chance of sun” one to come along. My dog has been moping around the house and disappearing upstairs to crawl into bed. I nearly considered joining him. We’re convinced he’s solar-powered as the second the rays of the sun hit him he turns into a different dog entirely. I often enjoy a cold cloudy day, but I think I’m a bit solar-powered as well and am needing a bit of sun to recharge. Wait… no way… the sun just appeared! Still cold, but hey, it’s progress!
I actually did sketch a true butterfly, but didn’t feel inspired to paint it. It’s still waiting there in my sketchbook, so maybe it will make an appearance one day. In truth, I think I want to keep focusing on what I really love: food, glass and shiny things, so I may or may not be following all of the prompts this month and just playing inside the theme. However, it’s equally fun, like I’ve done here, to try to force the prompt into what I wanted to paint anyway. I’m also interested in practicing perspective a bit more and attempting some unusual angles. While I’m good at buildings in perspective, circles are my nemesis, so I’m determined to conquer them. For anyone joining me on this month’s challenge, I just wanted to remind you that you don’t have to follow the prompts if you’d prefer to go a little off-road and explore, then please do so! Daily painting is really the only scheme with these challenges. That’s why I like to keep the themes pretty general so there are plenty of options to explore.
As for me, I’m now about to have a little sushi for a snack. Yeah, I’m a total addict, but I’m comfortable with admitting that. It’s nothing fancy, just another bit of supermarket sushi because we drove through parking lot intending to go to World Market and I parked for no reason at all. Not wanting to appear like a total idiot, I said that I really wanted sushi, which is actually never a lie, so we went inside to buy some. I often do that. My mind wanders a bit and I go on autopilot and just do whatever routine comes to mind first. It’s my body’s way of bringing me back into reality I suppose. My friends refer to this as “Charlie World” and thankfully I’m never there very long and always return to attend to whatever is really happening. My imagination is just a fun place to hang out in. What can I say? I hope you’re also enjoying a lovely day or evening, depending on your time zone when reading this, and having a perfectly wonderful weekend. I’m about to settle into mine on this, now quite lovely, cold spring day.

I like grocery store sushi.
It snowed here today..and I painted a butterfly from an older photo I took😌
Snow? Ugh… hehe… and here I was complaining about the cold. But yeah, grocery store sushi is awesome! 😃💕

Do you know, I don’t think I’ve ever tried cappuccino? Just normal plain old coffee.
I’m going to give myself some watercolour time this month as well. I keep promising, but never do it. I’ll see what variations I can come up with with your prompts.

Phineas has Sundowner’s and you have Charlie’s World syndrome – otherwise known as spontaneous development. Butterflies transform as well, so you’re all part of the great metamorphosis of life where opportunity is subject to optimal conditions. Sounds good to me.
