You may think from this illustration that I finally started the post-Paris diet I’ve been talking about, but that isn’t the cause. I just wasn’t able to choose a single example of “comfort food” for today’s prompt, so I chose the one thing that all comfort foods I enjoy have in common. Here we have a little doodlewash in just two colors (Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Deep) of a silver spoon. As the temperatures get colder here, this means more of one of my favorite types of comfort food in the form of soup. Really any soup will do as long as it’s not overly thought out and filled with cream. When it comes to soups, simple is best, from squash soup to ones of just puréed mixed vegetables and spices. But soup is just the beginning of the marvelous feats the spoon can perform. It can also dive into a bowl of ice cream or an unexpected bowl of breakfast cereal at supper time!
Since I’ve mentioned that dessert is my favorite dinner food, the spoon is therefore my favorite piece of cutlery. When I’m at a restaurant and order dessert, they’ll often come by with the spoon first, further enhancing my anticipation of the treat that’s coming. If you’re eating with others and feeling generous, of course, there may be more than one spoon that arrives. My favorite cakes are the ones that are moist and delicious, like tiramisu, and those can also be eaten with a spoon. So this little gadget is like a little trophy of comfort for me, signalling some of the best food moments in my life. Without it, I would never have been able to eat my Fruit Loops one loop at a time just to see if each color had its own unique flavor.
As kids, we liked to take a spoon and do the old hang a spoon on your nose trick. You’d take a spoon and rub it on the end of your nose to get some friction going and if all went well, it would stick there. If not, you could also try breathing on it first, but this always seemed like cheating. Looking back, it sounds a bit stupid, but that’s probably why it always made us laugh. And laughter is another form of comfort, which further confirms this utensil’s incredible versatility. Before I break into a love sonnet about a spoon, which would be rather weird and unsettling, I’ll just stop things here. Happy in the knowledge that sometimes, all it takes to warm my heart and make me smile is a spoonful of comfort.

Very well rendered utensil, especially the reflection! As for your “spoonisms” you missed my favorite- the small long handled spoon used for ice cream sodas and milk shakes! Yum!!
Thanks, Nancy!! 😃💕 Yes!! Long handled spoons are the BEST! I haven’t had a proper shake in so long… now I want one soon! hehe
YOU – Mr. Charlie O – are a spoonful of comfort and joy! <3

Isn’t there a song about a SPOONFUL of sugar?!! 😉 Mary Poppins knew what she was talking about! Lol! 😍👍 AWESOME Doodlewash, Charlie! ❤️ Although my favorite comfort food is all about cheese and pasta! I made homemade lasagna tonight… Oh, so wonderful!! ❤️🧀🍝🍷
Thanks, Jill! 😃💕 And wait… no thanks… now that song is going to be stuck in my head all day! hahaha! So glad you liked this one… and I thought about lasagna… definitely on my list of amazing comfort foods! yum!!! I’m jealous! hehe
Lol! 😍 I don’t make lasagna very often because it makes so much! Too bad you don’t live closer, I’d invite you and Philippe over for dinner! 😊💕🍷
Shiny doodlewash…..and of course you can play the spoon, I remember my grandad playing the spoons when we were young, I used to try to copy, but I just made a heap of noise with no musical recognition to sing alone too 😀
Thanks, Rebecca! 😃💕 Oh yeah… playing spoons! I remember trying to do that, but could never figure it out. hehe… But proof that the little spoon is truly an amazing invention! Lol
Lovely painting Charlie, making me all the more appreciative of this piece of cutlery. I also enjoy my dessert. Love having home made ice cream for instance!
I haven’t been around your blog much. Sorry. Will go through it from now on and find out why you want to go on a diet… Will be back!
Thanks so much, Corinne!! 😃💕 Hehe… I just ate my way through Paris for two weeks, so that’s the cause of the diet. Hasn’t really started yet though! Lol
I guess you just had to when you were in Paris. So much good food to taste, sights to see. 🙂
Yeah… the food is always the main attraction for me when I visit! (after friends and family of course! 😊hehe)
Amazing you did this with just 2 colors Charlie – awesome!
Awww thanks, Sharon! 😃💕 My favorite little two color combo… hehe… so many colors can be made, including black!
Your spoon is masterfully painted, with subtle color and enchanting reflections.
But I’m telling you, when I’m hungry, if nothing else is available, fingers do nicely!
Thanks, Sharon! 😃💕 Haha! Yes! Fingers will always do when no cutlery is to be found! Nothing gets between me and food! 😊hehe
This is awesome. I love your connection between the spoon and comfort. I never thought of comfort food from this perspective.
Awww thanks! 😃 It’s the many soups I end up having this time of year that does it. Sooooo good! hehe
This is so good! <3
Thanks so much! 😃💕
It will be really sweet of you if you through my new fashion blog, I really want your views 😀
