Here’s the sketch I did at the Doodlewash Dinner Party last night. It was a fast and loose sketch, and half of it was completed in very low light. The apparent storm coming in the upper right is an accidental smudge of my ink, and I’m still not sure how it happened. But I was pleased that I did something fast without all the tiny detail I normally include.

Also, this was the first sketch in my Moleskine Art Plus Watercolor Album (Pocket). I’ve heard complaints about Moleskine and it’s ability to take water, but this watercolor paper version handled the water quite well without much, if any, buckling. It’s a fairly heavy 200-gsm/135 lb., cold-pressed paper that’s identical on both sides and was created especially for Moleskine. I’d recommend it as an option if you’re looking for something small and compact to carry around at all times for sketching (though they, of course, have a larger size than this tiny 3.5 x 5.5 version) as it’s very doodlewash friendly!

  1. Wonderful picture, love the turquoise colors of the water!!! I hear so much about Moleskine here… Aren´t they expensive in the USA? Or – is this where you live? Here in Germany or Europe they are really quite expensive…
