So I’m hungry for dessert again already and decided to arrive at our #DoodlewashDinner with some key lime pie. This is one of my favorites and something that I have the hardest time passing up when it’s on the dessert menu. Many versions are more demure when it comes to the whipped cream, placing it artfully in little dollops only near the crust. When I was a kid, I remember it being served more like this one. It wasn’t about elegance and presentation back then and nothing was served in tiny cups with bits of graham cracker. The bigger the better and bring on the cream!

As an adult, a pie slice of this proportion would be one I would only split with someone else at the end of the meal, if not a group of four. If someone had suggested this when I was a kid I would have clocked them in the face! Actually, that’s not true at all, as I was an extraordinarily wimpy kid who could have never hit anything and caused damage. But they would have received an awkwardly long angry stare. That would teach them. Since I didn’t grow up to be particularly strong, I still use this tactic today. No, back then, I would happily devour the entire giant slice while wishing I could have another one.

I don’t really have much to say about limes or key lime pie really. If you’ve not tried it, you should, unless you’re allergic to limes which makes me super sad. The sheer popularity of this dessert is in the fact that limes and cream are generally well accepted as being pleasing. When you put them together you have an amazing combination that makes for the ultimate dessert. Through the power of digital technology, we can make copies of this one to ensure that everyone at the party has there very own slice. Then we all get to be kids again!

  1. Oh you are killing me with these desserts and yummy foods! I truthfully don’t think that I ever have had key lime pie….hmmmm…..I have had lemon but key lime? now I want to make one! 🙂 yummy doodle as ever, Charlie!

  2. Your pie has my mouth watering. I had my first piece of key like pie years ago in Florida and have never had a good one since. Something about the limes that grow there. Love that pie. I’ll be right over for a piece.

  3. Yum! Dang it, life is not fair when it comes to being an adult and eating desserts. However, I have a killer recipe for a frozen key lime pie that my husband adores, so if you ever want to splurge let me know and I will send it. However, keep the ingredients a secret from Phillipe 😉 Terrific doodlewash, Charlie!

    1. Thanks Carol!! 😃💕 That sounds Delish! Now you’ve got me wondering what the ingredients are! Hehe… It’s impossible to keep them secret as I truly can’t prepare any food without botching it up. He’d never allow this much whipped cream I think. 😊Hehe

  4. Nee-naw, nee-naw… the Pie Police are back, I see! And jolly good too. This is bordering on a cruelty now, Charles – how am I supposed to go to sleep when you’re showing us this hunk of sheer heaven? And that filling!! I want my entire life clad in that colour. <3

      1. Ha! Hmm, I don’t remember them, but I hope they were. And just chuck some lemon in and you basically have a Citrus Polo pie! Mmm! That’d probably need to be wolfed down before the Pie Police show up 😉

  5. Oh, YUM! Thanks for the little (or big depending on your screen size, lol!) slice of heaven, Charlie! 😍💕 We recently had this decadent dessert and the restaurant had a layer of white chocolate on top of the key lime then the whipped cream. We split it 3 ways which turned out to be a mistake as my hubby’s mom did not stick to her end of the bargain and only have one bite! Lol!! 😄🍰🍋

      1. you’re most welcome Charlie 🙂 i forgot to say how i noticed the lime curls on top….. you painted those, really really, well! funny – what my eye hones in on?! not that the whole thing wasn’t pretty… it was, as always. no problems with sharing these days. except for when people try to burgle stuff in the house of course! that stuff is mine!! lol

  6. Such s gorgeous painting of a lovely dessert! This is one of my faves but not my family’s so I can’t make it or I have to say it all. Lol. I love the mix of tangy citrus and cream! Ready for a piece for breakfast now! Darn you 😜

  7. Ooh, my absolute favorite! I could just eat your doodlewash Charlie. I’m afraid I’ll have key lime pie on my brain all day! Not a bad thing to obsess over!
