It’s a brand new month and that means a new Doodlewash Adventure! This month’s adventure is A Celebration Of Food and more than half of the prompts this month also relate to various obscure food holidays that appear in November. Actually it’s not Croissant Day until January 30th, but that’s simply too long to wait for one. So we have this little three color doodlewash of a croissant and espresso. The fact that there’s literally a day for every food you could imagine is rather remarkable and simply a sign of just how important food can be to people. And not to worry, the food this month is also a rather balanced diet with healthy options included. Yes, there’s a dessert or two on the list this month, but that’s just healthy in a different way as smiling and euphoria are actually quite good for you! So grab a brush (and a fork) and join us!

While I was in Paris, I fell under the spell of various pastries, but the delicious simplicity of a croissant is hard to beat. Sure, it’s not so simple when you’re on a diet as it’s basically dough layered in butter, but that’s why it’s so yummy. The espresso was added to this little ensemble because I’m quite fond of the combo. My one regret in life is discovering really rich and wonderful food as an adult when my metabolism had already started to slow down. Most of my youth and fat-burning potential was wasted on food that came out of a box or a can. So today, I still sample whatever I can, but all of my portion sizes have gotten smaller. Basically, even if the food isn’t Spanish, I’ll still be enjoying it as tapas.

Thankfully, when it comes to sketching food, I often work from photo references and won’t be consuming everything on the menu this month. At least not necessarily in the order that it appears. I really can’t stand the idea of letting prepared food sit uneaten while I attempt to sketch it. So that pretty much just leaves raw fruits and vegetables for live sketching assuming they’re available. Okay, admittedly, I just love eating food. So, staring at the real thing for too long without digging in is an excrutiating experience. And, I hope some of you out there will be joining me for this watercolor adventure. Food is ever better when you can enjoy it with friends.

  1. Lovely one, Charlie! You have no idea how excited I am for this month’s challenge, but unlike you I have no self-discipline and will end up cooking all the foods as well. Oh well, roomy sweaters will hide that extra padding (I hope) 😀

  2. Charlie you could do food doodlewashes several times a day and I would never get bored. My metabolism has slowed down as well and while it’s no problem to drool over freshly-baked croissants, I can only put away 1 of the “real” deal, butter be damned!
