Today, I decided to try playing with just three colors again in this quick little doodlewash of crème caramel and coffee. I used a reference photo for this, and would have referred to the dessert as flan, but my partner Philippe, who is Parisian, assured me it’s actually crème caramel. Either way, I’m now just craving dessert and a bit sad that it’s not actually sitting in front of me. The dollop of whipped cream is the part that’s getting me excited as I simply love the stuff. In fact, I love it so much that I would happily forgo ice cream in exchange for this freshly whipped magic. Imagining it now, is just some weird form of torture.
I’m running incredibly short on time tonight so this post is going to be short. Just happy to have made my post for our amazing World Watercolor Month! It’s been incredible to see all the amazing variety of art that’s being produced during this challenge. And sure, it’s intimidating to see some of the work being produced, but it’s also exhilarating! I look at an amazing piece of watercolor work and think, wow, I want to be able to do that! Even if I can’t actually do that yet, attempting new things feels like I’m going on a real adventure! Which I always love! And somehow, I just don’t care about the outcome, the journey is entirely the fun part!

Such a sweet treat of a painting, beautifully done. Love the reflection in the caramel glaze on the plate to the delicious looking peaks of the whipped cream. …sigh, now I want dessert too. ;D
You and me both! Hehe…so glad you liked this Haunani! 😃💕
Charlie, your three-color creme caramel looks exquisite enough for royalty, and I am sure the real version tastes as such! I agree that real whipped cream is a treat in itself – so decadent. I am enjoying so much all the talented artists I have “met” and the lovely pantings I have seen this month. I am not intimidated one bit because we are all at different levels in our watercolor journey, and each and every one has something different to offer! 🎨💖
Thanks so much, Carol! 😃💕 And that’s so awesome to hear! I’m so proud of the group that’s formed and just how supportive and wonderful everyone is. It’s feels so unique and fabulous! So many great artists and great people as well! 😃
Yummy! I am enjoying the adventure and the journey. 🙂
Thanks, Susan! And yay!! So thrilled you’re enjoying the adventure…though I can totally tell as it shows in you’re wonderful art! 😃💕
Aw thank you Charlie
Yummy! my husband and I finally went out to eat at a nice restaurant and that is what we had for dessert….crème caramel! did I say yum!? I love whipping cream and the real kind not that stuff in the container….nope.
Yum!! You and your husband did the evening just right! Hehe…so good. I’ll usually plan my meal when eating out so I can be sure I’m never too full for dessert! lol 😉👍🏻
YUM! Now I want dessert too! 😍 Awesome Doodlewash Charlie! 🌟🌟🌟 I’m enjoying seeing all the different subjects being painted this month! What FUN!! 😄🎨
Isn’t it awesome?! Feels like the world is truly being painted with watercolor. I LOVE the variety!! That’s always been my goal to create a group like this! Love it!! So glad you’re enjoying it too!! 💕😃🎨🎉
And now you are making me want a sweet dessert! 🙂 A beautiful doodlewash. What a month you have created C.O.!!!! Enjoy!
Yes, but the difference between me and you is that you could actually MAKE that delicious awesome dessert!! 😉That’s it!! Must …get…to…Mars….😍🍴 And thanks!! It’s been such a fun month!!
Going by this I’d refer to this dessert as ‘darn tasty’, but I accept that créme caramel sounds a little more sophisticated. I’m not surprised this doodlewash left you with cravings – I need some of that naughty glistening caramel for myself! Scrumptious stuff as ever, Charlie!
Thanks Jacob! 😃Well I guess it’s some consolation that this version is calorie-free…wait…who am I kidding. Calories in desserts don’t count!! And I want some now!! 😊
Well, a virtual dessert has less calories…(K)
True! Which makes it awesome in its own way! (Still want the real thing though! Haha!)
Looks good enough to eat! Yummm! 😋
Awww thanks so much, Sibella! 😃💕
Welcome! 😊
Nice painting
Thanks! Glad you liked this! 😃
Your dessert is also an amazing piece of art.
Awww thanks so much, Teri! 😃💕
Awww I am so ready for dessert now that I am having a nice cup of coffee! Love your creme caramel! Beautiful watercolor Charlie 😉 <3
Absolutely yum!! Well done Charlie!
Awww thanks so much, Manny! I’m thrilled you liked it! 😃💕
It’s fabulous… Like all of your other pieces (a little bit more because it’s a dessert!) 🙂
lovely Charlie! trouble is…. now, I am so hungry. Really. I’d love to have some of that Real Whipped cream too.instead of whipped avo and banana instead. and lots of honey. LOL Great doodlewash post!! cheers, Debi
Oh yum… that all sounds amazing… I’m hungry now too!! Thanks so much, Debi! 😃💕
You really got that gloss on the caramel sauce! *green with envy* Surely Philippe can whip up some of those?
Awww thanks so much, Marina!😃💕 And yep… he can make absolutely anything. I’m kind of spoiled. 😊
I’m sure you deserve it😋
Aww Charlie you do torture youself so frequently, painting something delicious, and done so well, you must wish you had the skill of that boy in the magic paintbrush…..bring the restaurant to your home, and eat the best every day 😀 Oh and I love that you only used three colours true skill my friend ❤️
Thanks Rebecca! 😃💕Trying to play with a limited palette since my dreams of painting full scenes haven’t manifested yet! Hehe
I love a limited palette, mainly because I am lazy, as for whole page scenes, they scare me, what no white! Lol
Lol…I can usually pull it off with a quick urban sketch, but if I want to do details (which I usually do!) large scenes take too long for the time I have! Hehe
I totally get that, we could all do with more time 😀
Very beautiful. Smart to use 3 colours for this! This confirms: less is more 🙂
Awww thanks! So glad you liked this!
Now you are making me want some flan! It looks so delicious and really really so inviting. Observing your work closely is helping me a lot to. I am learning how to see things with its darkest shadows and lightest shadows. Thanks for sharing Charlie!
Aww thanks so much, Carrie! And cool!! Yeah, my trick if I have one is that I squint at the subject and then draw the shapes of the lightest and darkest areas, then push the contrast when I paint them! Makes things a bit shinier that way. Which I like at least!
Ask your partner to tell you all about cremes brûlées : D ….
He makes a fabulous, cremes brûlée!! Yum… I need to ask him sweetly to make one!!
Ok, seriously. NT was holding you back! I am so impressed, Charlie. Your stuff is getting better and better! You and Carrie need to stop with your glutinous paintings lol! Wow. Very very impressed thank you Charlie for inspiring me to keep on with WC. 💛💛💛
Awww thanks Laura! Yeah… dropping NT was a good thing. And using your limited color prompt has been a good thing too! It’s fun to play a bit! 😃💕
A really nice piece. Not only is your painting good but also your drawing of the plate and cup!
Awww thanks so much, Carmel! 😃💕Glad you liked this!
Flan in French is creme caramel – two spoons please. One of my favorite desserts and that’s saying a lot since I love dessert.
Great Doodlewash, totally off my diet.
Hehe! Thanks so much, Sharon!! 😃💕I don’t think this is on anyone’s diet, but it’s soooo good!! 😊
You awesome doodlewash is simply amazing! I’m craving now 😋
Awww thanks so much, Snehal!! 😃💕And sorry for the cravings. Hehe
Hahah 😆
