Written by Many of you who read my blog probably already know that my favorite drink is wine. Second only to bubbly water, of course. And when it comes to wine, I typically prefer red, though white is equally lovely with certain food pairings. So I made a little doodlewash of both of them. Some people only like one or the other, and even when you say you enjoy wine, there are many different things that could mean. For me, I like a very dry wine that might have a bit of floral notes, but never actually sweet. These days, we mostly drink French wine with an occasional South American Malbec. One point in life, years ago, I got totally into wines and even considered studying to become a sommelier. Then I realized just how much studying was required and quickly switched to just drinking it instead. Sometimes in life, a passion for understanding something doesn’t always translate into a lifelong commitment to learning. For me today, I just enjoy having my little glass of wine while painting it.
Actually, I only had a glass of red this evening as that won out again. To be honest, if I have something lighter in color, mostly in the summer months, I prefer champagne. Brut, of course, with lots of lovely bubbles. Though I at one time wanted to be an expert, I’m still not very well-versed when it comes to wines. I just know what I personally enjoy and that’s enough for me. It’s the same when it comes to watercolor and painting. I know there are several methods and “correct” ways of doing things, but I’d rather just sit and enjoy the moment without ever worrying too much about technique. There’s always an interesting phenomenon when you actually think you’ve learned how to do something. You can often cease to do it in your own unique way. This is why I always recommend trying watercolor tutorials from as many instructors as possible. It’s amazing to try the methods of various artists, and the more you do, the more you’ll learn the bits that seem to resonate with you most.
Many of you have asked me about tutorials on the way that I paint. I’m actually trying to deconstruct that now, and see if I can make something that’s remotely educational or useful. I’m so impressed by the many instructors we’ve featured here on Doodlewash. Learning to paint is often challenging enough, but to translate those learnings into something others can actually use is a uniquely wonderful talent indeed. My mind doesn’t work in a particularly uniform fashion, so I find the process quite challenging indeed. But like all things in life, my response is to simply DO and worry about the outcome later. So stay tuned, once I figure it all out, I’ll most certainly be sharing it with all of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and encouragement on this wonderful little journey. Your enthusiasm and love, propel me to keep trying new things and create a community that will be beneficial to us all! Together we can make amazing things happen. And for those of you who like to partake, when we finally meet, I’ll definitely be serving you a glass of my favorite drink.

I really don’t know how you paint glass so perfectly. That is a talent all in itself. And how you make things so shiny. I need to watch a tutorial on this for sure. Maybe several.
