Many of you who read my blog probably already know that my favorite drink is wine. Second only to bubbly water, of course. And when it comes to wine, I typically prefer red, though white is equally lovely with certain food pairings. So I made a little doodlewash of both of them. Some people only like one or the other, and even when you say you enjoy wine, there are many different things that could mean. For me, I like a very dry wine that might have a bit of floral notes, but never actually sweet. These days, we mostly drink French wine with an occasional South American Malbec. One point in life, years ago, I got totally into wines and even considered studying to become a sommelier. Then I realized just how much studying was required and quickly switched to just drinking it instead. Sometimes in life, a passion for understanding something doesn’t always translate into a lifelong commitment to learning. For me today, I just enjoy having my little glass of wine while painting it.
Actually, I only had a glass of red this evening as that won out again. To be honest, if I have something lighter in color, mostly in the summer months, I prefer champagne. Brut, of course, with lots of lovely bubbles. Though I at one time wanted to be an expert, I’m still not very well-versed when it comes to wines. I just know what I personally enjoy and that’s enough for me. It’s the same when it comes to watercolor and painting. I know there are several methods and “correct” ways of doing things, but I’d rather just sit and enjoy the moment without ever worrying too much about technique. There’s always an interesting phenomenon when you actually think you’ve learned how to do something. You can often cease to do it in your own unique way. This is why I always recommend trying watercolor tutorials from as many instructors as possible. It’s amazing to try the methods of various artists, and the more you do, the more you’ll learn the bits that seem to resonate with you most.
Many of you have asked me about tutorials on the way that I paint. I’m actually trying to deconstruct that now, and see if I can make something that’s remotely educational or useful. I’m so impressed by the many instructors we’ve featured here on Doodlewash. Learning to paint is often challenging enough, but to translate those learnings into something others can actually use is a uniquely wonderful talent indeed. My mind doesn’t work in a particularly uniform fashion, so I find the process quite challenging indeed. But like all things in life, my response is to simply DO and worry about the outcome later. So stay tuned, once I figure it all out, I’ll most certainly be sharing it with all of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and encouragement on this wonderful little journey. Your enthusiasm and love, propel me to keep trying new things and create a community that will be beneficial to us all! Together we can make amazing things happen. And for those of you who like to partake, when we finally meet, I’ll definitely be serving you a glass of my favorite drink.

Wine looks good, and yes, you should teach your process.
Thanks so much, Sharon!! 😃💕 And yes! One day soon, I will!
I really don’t know how you paint glass so perfectly. That is a talent all in itself. And how you make things so shiny. I need to watch a tutorial on this for sure. Maybe several.
Aww thanks so much, June! 😃💕 It’s all about lots of contrast! And painting all of the weird shapes that you see, that don’t seem like they should be there at all.
😊
Here’s mud in your eye! Where did that toast come from anyway? Lol
Thanks, Lisa!! 😃💕 Back at ya! Yeah, that’s a weird phrase that has several origin stories like most. Everything from World War I soldiers, to horse racing, to the Bible! hehe
Oh, the light and reflections on the wine glasses are fabulous! Bottoms up!
Thanks so much, Suz! 😃💕 Glad you liked this one!!
Favorite line: “I got totally into wines and even considered studying to become a sommelier. Then I realized just how much studying was required and quickly switched to just drinking it instead.” LOL! I, for one, would LOVE to see a tutorial of your painting if you so choose to do! But only do it if you will love doing it! 🙂 <3
Hehe… thanks, Jodi!! 😃💕 Glad you liked that bit. And one day I’ll definitely provide a bit of instruction to my process. Probably titled, watercolor for people with limited patience! 😊lol
Always a pleasure to see your work and today’s was no exception, Charlie! Yes, I would also enjoy seeing your process. 🙂
Thanks so much, Von!! 😃💕 I really appreciate that!! And yes… one day I will share it!
Yes I want to learn how you paint! A class would be awesome!
Thanks so much, Jennifer! 😃💕 Once I figure out what it is I’m actually doing, I’ll happily share it!! 😊
I am really looking forward to learning more about your technique. Thanks for building such a wonderful community and sharing yourself with us.
Thanks so much, Lisa! 😃💕 I’ll definitely share something about my technique in some way soon! But thankfully, we’re all teaching each other in the interim!
Cheers Charlie! 🍷 Red or white – it’s wine I like! 😊
Thanks so much, Jill! 😃💕 We will totally have a drink together one day! hehe
I always love looking at the drinks you paint. The reflections are always so amazing.
Thanks so much, Sandra! 😃💕 I love reflections and watercolor is the perfect medium to capture them!
The glass surface and reflections of the wine colors are so beautiful. Truly lovely paintings. I like what you said about being able to enjoy some things without being expert in all aspects – we can all take a breather.
Thanks so much, Shari! 😃💕 And yeah, I totally believe that. I give myself lots of permission to “fail” and still do as I try to paint something each and every day. There really isn’t a correct way, save that you should always have fun doing it!
That’s lovely!!! And I like the “just do” philosophy – laughing about switching from being a sommelier to just having a glass. I’m with you – I’d rather drink it and paint. 🙂 But I feel exactly the opposite about painting and I’d love to see a Charlie tutorial!
Thanks so much, Lydia! 😃💕 hehe… yeah… drinking wine is WAY more fun! And there will be a Charlie tutorial of some kind one day, once I figure out the way to make it more Charlie. lol
Cheers! Can’t wait to see what you come up with for a tutorial. Wow … great job on the reflections on the glasses from the base to the stems!
Thanks so much!! 😃💕 Yeah, one day I’ll figure out how to tell people about what I do. I get so busy DOing it, that I don’t always know myself! 😊
Nice work but why does your like option take so long to load?
Thanks so much, Graham! 😃💕 And yeah… this site has a lot of new features and I’m still trying to get them all to place nicely with each other. 😊
Can’t wait to see what your brain comes up with for tutorials. 😀
