Day 14 - World Watercolor Month Sweet Treats Donut - Doodlewash

Day 14 – #WorldWatercolorMonth – Sweet Treats

Sweet treats, today’s prompt, are at the top of my list when it comes to life’s little pleasures. As many of you know who see my doodlewashes and read my rambles, I’m rather fond of desserts of any kind. And doughnuts are a definite favorite, so that’s where I ended up for today’s entry. It’s rather rare for me to actually have a doughnut so it’s certainly a treat when it happens. In truth, when you deep fry something, it rather certain to taste delicious. After I sketched fries yesterday, I managed to talked Philippe into making them tonight, so I’ll be enjoying a little deep-fried snack shortly. I love when my sketches can conjure up the actual thing, so who knows. Perhaps tomorrow, a I’ll be enjoying a doughnut, but more likely not, after the fries. Everything in moderation, as they say, though I’m not sure who they are and I’m equally certain they weren’t sitting in front of a dozen doughnuts when they said it.

Also, today, I have a very special treat for those reading this post. World Watercolor Month Official Sponsor Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff is offering readers of Doodlewash the following special discount:

Keep those brushes moving as we paint continue to paint the world together in beautiful watercolor!

As for edible treats, it’s been so warm here that Philippe and I picked up some frozen treats at the store this afternoon. I wanted the all-fruit lemon popsicles and Philippe opted for dark chocolate covered frozen bananas. As fast as I typically paint, it’s not quite fast enough to render frozen treats before they melt, and truly, just staring at dessert rather than eating it seems crazy to me. Even when I have one available to sketch, I snap a photo and hide it, otherwise I would be too distracted to paint. Yes, I’ll happily admit to still just being a big kid. I’ve considered growing up, but could never quite understand what benefits that would bring. People often mention, including myself, listening to your inner child, but I think it’s equally wonderful to wear your childlike tendencies on the surface, where everyone can see and enjoy them with you. Life is just way more fun when lived with all the happy abandon of a kid. Whether it’s splashing around paint without any fear or hesitancy at all, or taking a moment out of the day to greedily and unapologetically enjoy some sweet treats!

  1. oh noooo!!! donuts are an even worse temptation than french fries and the one you painted is remarkable. Like you, everything in moderation and it’s rare for me to eat a donut anymore…at least not when i’m at home….however…when I visit friends in WNY all bets are out the window. There are too many choices for good donuts so of course I have to indulge….ummm, and indulge. Good thing that trip is usually only once a year.

  2. I heard some diet guru on tv talking about the eat everything diet. You can eat whatever you want, whenever you want on this diet. The only catch is that you have to make it yourself! Homemade donuts would be wonderful, but I’m not willing to make them. Are you?

  3. I’m not a fan of donuts, although yours looks good. Frozen treats, or more specifically, ice cream, is my thing. Any flavor with dark chocolate! If I could only have one food, ice cream would be it. How nice to have French fries prepared by a Frenchman!

  4. A tasty looking donut for sure. Pretty shade of pink. I enjoyed my first one in a long time a week ago when my sister was visiting. It was something my husband and I enjoyed on occasion too. He loved a good donut. They are just so hard to find. ..not the same as ones we ate when we were kids.

      1. Thank you for sharing your childhood pink donut story with me. It’s so true. I have been in search for a similar shop as you as I grew up in a small town with a family run business too. So, so much better then. No preservatives, GMO’s or other unknown ingredients. All made with natural goodness and love.

  5. Your donut looks tasty and beautiful to behold, but I have to admit ice cream sounds better. It’s hot here as well, and our air conditioner is not doing its job very well. We’re supposed to hit 99 tomorrow and I think ice cream might be a medical necessity for cooling off. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

    1. Thanks, Sandra! 😃💕I support your quest for good health and you should have your ice cream! hehe… ugh… the heat is awful, isn’t it? Sorry about your AC… ours is thankfully cranking along well now after getting repaired just before the heat wave really started.

    1. hahaha! hmmm…. I have doodlewashed a car, but a wet mop is a new one! 😉 Yeah, I don’t know why I have a penchant for painting fantasy desserts like this. But there are no calories involved in imagining them at least! hehe

  6. LOL! I too love donuts, but also can not have them very often. I would eat a dozen if I could, but unfortunately I know the repercussions! Your donut looks good enough to eat!

    Charlie at his best!

had a brain bleed and am limited to 15 minutes a day of screen time…
will use 10 of those minutes each day reading here until I get caught up on this super site!

      1. Charlie,

I have some issues that aren’t going to go away, but I’ve had a really good and really looooong life : ) and I am still able to enjoy doodlewash, and I will!
I know this is a super busy month for you so I’ll spare you details for now.

          1. You are a very special person, Charlie O’Shields. Thank you for all the hours of pure joy you create as an artist, as a writer and as a friend..

          2. You are just the sweetest, Sarah! 😃💕 Thank you so much! I’m thrilled to be your friend and so happy you enjoy my little daily offerings. It’s tough to show up with my stories and doodlewashes on some days and SO encouraging to know someone out there is actually waiting to enjoy them! Thank you!
