Day 14: #WorldWatercolorMonth Strawberry Ice Cream and Nutella

Day 14: #WorldWatercolorMonth

After yesterday’s dessert, I just couldn’t stop thinking about dessert, so I’ve added one more color and today we have some strawberry ice cream with a full jar of Nutella. If you’ve never tried Nutella, you’re missing out on a hazelnut cocoa taste sensation. Though I don’t have it very often, it’s one of those guilty pleasures that are so good you simply can’t actually feel guilty about the indulgence. Paired here with another sweet favorite, ice cream. Though I have to admit that vanilla is my favorite flavor, strawberry is a close second. I couple of summers ago, I learned how to make my own ice cream using our KitchenAid stand mixer. I was elated! And it still remains to this day the only productive thing I can actually do in a kitchen.

What I don’t understand is why everything that tastes amazing has to also be high in calories. It seems a cruel joke that our taste buds are tuned to love most the things that should only be kept in moderation. You’d think we’d have evolved to only want the healthiest food. Food that would make us stronger and survive longer, furthering our species. But it’s often and quite mysteriously the opposite as our bodies tell us, almost scream, that yes, we can survive on only ice cream and Nutella tonight. And as we consume every last delicious bite, we live in the moment, and just enjoy it for what it is.

I guess it all works like this for a reason. I can’t imagine being so finely tuned that I never had to want for something more. I love to treat myself on occasion for reasons I can’t define and others reasons I simply make up. A world without treats would be a sad world indeed. Those little things you only get every once in awhile become so special. I’ve felt that a lot these last two weeks as World Watercolor Month is happening. What an amazing treat this month has been so far, with so many people from around the world coming together to paint beautiful things. It’s truly a rare treat, and yes, it’s even better than strawberry ice cream and Nutella.

  1. I’ve spent some time thinking Nutella is one of the most evil things ever invented because of it’s caloric tasty goodness. I put a self ban on it, but every once in a while…I cross that line. There’s a constant jar of it where I work, most of the time I have to look the other way. I won’t get started on ice cream 😉 Great sketch Charlie!

  2. I have never, ever tried Nutella….I always wondered about it and actually a little fear that I would love it and go hog crazy and gain tons of weight and look like a fat cow is probably one of the reason I have avoided it. Your doodle looks yummy and I will now try Nutella, about time that I did. 🙂

  3. Your painting is delightful. You’ve been very skilled in rendering all those different surfaces.

Bad mother confession: for the past six months, it’s become a tradition for me to make my sons peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches for their packed lunches on a Friday, as a treat. Still not as bad as the time I ran out of bread and made them sandwiches for school using strawberry brioche.

  4. I started out loving your art but now I realize I most look forward to the stories you write. You are an amazing person, with a huge heart and a wonderful view of life.

I love the delicious art too. And I’m pretty impressed that a guy who says he can’t cook can make ice cream. What else are you hiding, Charlie?

    1. Awww thanks so much, Sharon! 😊💕That’s so sweet of you to say. I don’t know if I have any more secrets. I’m sure I’ve let most of them loose on this blog. Hehe… but very few have read every post, so I’m sure there’s still things hidden. 😉

  5. you are so right Charlie! a world, without treats or pleasant things to look forward to…. would be a pitiful one!
But we have your lovely posts, stories, and Desserts… to drool over – don’t we? Lucky us 🙂
    hungry…. Again!

  6. Another feast! Love it.
Have you tried Nutella from Germany? Had some when I was there and it puts ours to shame. My daughter visits there a few times a year and always has to come back with an order from everyone. 😄

  7. PS Watching the news after a long work day and trying to find joy and beauty and love and kindness in the world. Is Philippe glued to the news? Such horrific tragedy.

    1. Yeah, he’s been watching it. The world is filled with such ugly and awful people (or animals that only visually resemble people). Nothing to do but keep putting beautiful things into the world. It may not fix the evil, but it’s something good to focus on.

      1. I agree charlie. I started painting my feelings this evening despite the “happy” post I have scheduled for tomorrow morning as I was feeling “guilty” for posting “happy.” But now I am thinking we must post joy and happy and not let these “animals” win.

  8. Charlie I am so enjoying your posts. My husband and I have a bit of trouble with normal ice cream, and gaot milk ice cream is outrageously expensive. I bought him a Kitchenaid Ice Cream Maker — Not expensive — and SO easy! He became the ice cream maker in our house, and our goat milk ice cream is undeductible!

  9. Love the painting. And who doesn’t love dessert. I don’t know if you are any where near a Cheesecake Factory, but they just unveiled a new Cheesecake today called Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch that is topped with Nutella. I plan on trying it the next time I go. Nutella is the devil, but I love it. My favorite dessert featuring Nutella is a Banana Nutella Crepe…Mmmmm!! Now I need dessert 🙂

  10. I love vanilla ice cream too and of course, homemade tastes best. But it’s hard to eat in moderation. So we are careful not to make it too often. 🙂 Not a fan of Nutella, which is a good thing. Save me some calories. Really enjoying all the posts for World Watercolour Month.

  11. Your posts are always so delightful Charlie. Mmm Nutella is the best thing since sliced bread – wait, the best thing ON sliced bread… or just.. on its own ^_~ lol. Fantastic painting – as always! 🙂

  12. Fabulous! Well, I was originally going to characteristically sneer at the ice cream, but then you brought in the N-word. Nutella! Oh my! <3 I am quite captivated by the jar. If there's anything that can make ice cream tolerable, it's Nutella, surely. An interesting idea to blend the two.

Go you on the whole making your own ice cream. I bet Philippe was so proud of you! 😉
