Day 18: #WorldWatercolorMonth Whole Pineapple Sliced Slices white background

Day 18: #WorldWatercolorMonth

Here’s another bit of playing with just three colors in this doodlewash of a sliced pineapple. For this one, I used just Quinacridone Gold, Ultramarine Blue, and Burt Sienna and sepia ink. I have a painting crush on Quinacridone Gold because when you use very little water with it you can get a deep golden brown that increases your palette a bit. This is the first time I’ve ever painted a pineapple, but I was thinking about dessert and thought this was a healthier option. I love a perfectly ripe pineapple, though if it’s not perfectly ripe I’m sort of on the fence with this fruit. At any rate, here I present to you my first ever attempt at a pineapple, ripened like I prefer. Hope you like it!

We’ve hit another evening where I’m moving fast and running desperately behind, so I don’t have much time to type. The one thing I really want to say is that I’m thoroughly enjoying everyone’s paintings for World Watercolor Month! It’s been a huge thrill to see so many people coming together to celebrate the month with beautiful art. A special shout out to those of you still managing to keep up with the 31 watercolors challenge! I hope you’re enjoying the wonderful feeling that only comes from making art daily. Personally, I keep hoping that I’m improving overall even though some days it feels like I’ve taken a few steps backward. That’s all part of the process. And honestly, all part of the fun. If I knew what would happen each day, I’d probably get bored. So cheers to just enjoying whatever comes next!

  1. Holy Schmoly! Look at your pineapple!!!!!!!!!! WOW! Amazing Charlie! I don’t know how you do it. You rock every subject you tackle!!! Must be nice to be YOU! 🙂 <3

  2. Food is your thing, I think! You and P will do that cookbook, I feel sure of it! Wonderful, Charlie and we are all learning so much from our daily dance with Lady WC. Thank you for inspiring us to the challenge and for showing is so delightfully how it’s done! Bravo and encore, my friend!

  3. Oh wow wow, this is wonderful, and just in time for afters! I really love those blue shadows against the mouth-watering sunny flesh. Irresistible! I do like a good chunk of pineapple any time of the year, but it does certainly add a touch of zing to the week-long summer. Yum yum!

  4. I’ve lived in Hawaii twice as a child, and pineapple is a staple fruit there. I quickly learned that only fresh pineapple will do, no fruit flavors or canned stuff. Your art reminds me how visually gorgeous the fruit is and that I should get some for the weekend. Three colors – wow – you are an outstanding artist, Charlie.
