Day 2: #WorldWatercolorMonth – Delicious Food

When it comes to delicious food, it’s really tough to choose a favorite to paint. We had some peaches we bought recently that were not very sweet, so I sweet-talked my partner Philippe into making them into a cobbler. But those are not quite as interesting to paint and he hasn’t served it yet. It’s just sitting there a few feet away and taunting me. Also, it’s taken me three days to convince him so this is rather a milestone this evening which I thought deserved a little doodlewash to celebrate. For those of you painting along with me for World Watercolor Month, I hope you’re having a fabulous time! I’ve been enjoying your art in our Official Gallery as well as in our Facebook Group! Thank you so much for participating in this global charitable event and inspiring so many people across the world. If you’re trying for 31 watercolors this month, then don’t stop! You can DO this! I’ll be right here beside you all along the way, each and every day, until the very last day! And beyond, actually, because after all of these challenges, I’m totally addicted and tend to always show up each day now.

While I was typing this post, Philippe took pity on me so I’m actually writing this next bit in between bites of delicious peach cobbler. All those peaches needed, as it turns out, was a bit of sugar and butter to make them right again. I’m not entirely sure that I need more sugar and butter, but I’ve learned to never question things when someone hands you dessert. And I’m always in a celebratory mood all month long in July! It’s truly an amazing event to see so many people coming together to paint and share what they make. What I love most are all the notes that I receive from people trying watercolor for the first time. That’s awesome! Never be shy about posting your work. Trust me, it’s beautiful. It can take years to develop any level of mastery, so for the rest of us, myself very much included, it’s really just a chance to practice and have a lot of fun. So, let’s DO this and paint the world with watercolor in July!

Right now, I’ve finished my little piece of cobbler and I’m eyeing the rest of it. Philippe caught me and gave me “that look” which implies, “don’t even think about it.” Part of me sees it as another challenge, but in truth, I think it’s just one of those looks that protects me from myself, so I’ll move on to another espresso instead. I might get another look for that, but he’s in the other room now and can’t see me. One of the things I love in our house is that food is always a central part of the experience (perhaps also why we ended up publishing a little illustrated cookbook!). Dinner is never an intrusion to the evening, it’s the very point of the evening itself. It’s a little celebration and ritual that we enjoy each and every day. Much like my little watercolor sketching ritual that always brings me so much joy. There are so many impressive and fantastic things that can be experienced in life, but for me, my heart will always embrace the simplest things. In the end, I’m happiest when I have my little sketchbook, some lovely watercolors, a nice glass of wine, and some delicious food.

  1. Those peaches look perfect! Gotta admit though, I’d rather have cobbler, lol Reminds me. I need to buy another copy of your cookbook. During the family reunion last week, my sister-in-law fell in love with the copy I had, and sweet-talked me out of it.

  3. Lovely peaches, It makes me want to eat some. And this will probably sound really weird… But I have never seen peach cobbler in my life (or I was so young that I don’t remember it) After googling it, I really need to make some the next time I can grab some peaches.

    that is not fair! My favorite of favorites, though I confess I eat mine with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting over the top…I don’t know why I do that because if there is
    a perfect food, it is most surely peach cobbler.

    1. Hehe! Yay! 😃💕 Glad you’re a peach cobbler fan as well. I have to admit that we had it “dry” the first day and immediately went out to purchase some vanilla Häagen-Dazs. Some things are just meant to be!
