Day 2 #WorldWatercolorMonth Spilled Red Wine and Glass Reflections

Day 2: #WorldWatercolorMonth

Playing with reflections, shadows, and caustics for Day 2 of #WorldWatercolorMonth so we have this image which looks a bit like a close up of a crime scene. This was, of course, unintentional and I can assure you that no crime has been committed, save the spilt wine. This was done again with a fast pencil contour and then an ink sketch followed by some quick watercolor splashing. I didn’t really overthink anything or think too much at all for that matter as I’m committed to playtime this month and taking more risks. And I have to say, it’s super freeing and fun! I love wine, so this image nearly brings tears to my eyes, but it was the best subject to practice with as it had all the challenging elements I was wanting to explore.

And I’m about to pour myself a glass of wine now, so let’s hope it doesn’t end up like this one. My post is going to be super short today as I’m off to look through all the fabulous watercolors posted for World Watercolor Month! You are  all seriously amazing! Cheers to those who are taking the 31 day challenge and a special shout out to those who say they’re new to watercolor. Be bold and be happy! You’re making the world beautiful! I’ve linked out to all the social sites at our homebase: worldwatercolor.com. Check it out! Lots of talent on this little green planet.

  1. This is incredibly well-done! I’ve never attempted painting glass before; it’s just too daunting. Love your story, as usual! <3 You should have put up the disclaimer, "No actual wine was harmed in creating this painting." 😀

    1. I’m taking “daunting” on as my challenge for July! hehe… you may even see people! Gasp! Lol Thanks so much, Teresa, 😃💕and I can assure you that wine was NOT harmed in the making of this doodlewash. Excepted the bit I ingested… to bad for that bit.

  2. Ha, I genuinely did think this was some sort of crime thing at first! Clearly the reality is just as harrowing for you! You always do glass well and great job cramming all the other optical stuff in too. Very clever!

  3. Red, my fave of the wines (in fact, the only wine I drink these days, apart from champers). Love the shadows (yes, plural, you clever thing). In fact, I like the shadows better…

      1. I’m so glad you’re having fun, Charlie! If it wasn’t for you and WWM, I may not have picked up wc again for a very long time (at least not for 31 days or anything close)! So, it’ll be cool to see where we all are come August. Plus, what better way to power through summer than with water and color???? Nothing better. <3
