Day 26 – #WorldWatercolorMonth – Splashing Around

When I was little, donning a pair of boots and running outside to start splashing around, our prompt today, was a total blast. It was like having a piece of a superhero costume that made you impervious to puddles. So one could jump in them and splash about with no cares at all. Incredibly fun! This quick little 3-color doodlewash is notable for being a bit  looser and including a bit of an actual human creature, which is totally rare for me. Part of the fun of World Watercolor Month is playing, trying new things, and splashing watercolor around. This challenge each July, comes with no rules at all, save the use of watercolor, so I hope you’ve been enjoying just splashing color away in whatever method and subject matter feels most comfortable to you! Actually, as an adult, I don’t even own rain boots. If there are puddles outside I find myself, instead, just attempting to avoid them in sneakers. This is probably for the best as if I were to have a pair you’d find me jumping in puddles and laughing hysterically like an overgrown child. Come to think of it, that actually sounds rather awesome, so currently adding rain boots to my Amazon wish list.

Today, I’m making a little splash with something that always delights the kid in all of us. Free stuff! Once more, I have a 5×7″ sample of Winsor & Newton professional watercolor paper and a professional watercolor 6 color dot card to give away. It was actually rainy here earlier today and though the gray can seem a bit gloomy, the colors pop all the more. That’s the beauty of life. Even when things are blurry shades of gray it just serves to shine a light on all of the colorful and amazing things that life truly has to offer. As many of you can guess who read my posts, I’m a hopeless optimist. It’s not that I never get discouraged, it’s just that I can’t ever stay that way. Each challenge life poses is just that. Something to conquer and get past. And best of all, those challenges present new opportunities, which are really the coolest bits of life there are!  If it weren’t for this or that challenge I’ve faced, I might not even be here with you, rambling today. They say, whoever they are, that things all happen for a reason. And I believe this. So in that logic, there’s nothing that could possibly resemble failure. When we try new things, and play, letting the child inside us guide us, we can make miracles happen. We can turn our biggest hopes and dreams into a reality. We can even make 31 watercolors in 31 days. Because it’s nothing more difficult than simply showing up to paint, letting the colors flow mysteriously, as we find ourselves happily splashing around.

  1. Your detail is amazing. I see those feet moving through the water. Is there someone out there who can teach me how to paint water and glass? Something I strive for and still hope to master someday!!!

    1. Thanks so much, Anne! 😃💕Aww I love to paint glass and water! One day I hope to make a tutorial of some kind, but there are others in our community far better at showing how it’s done. For water… it’s simply about high contrast horizontal lines… this creates a sense of reflection.   8. Love this, and I followed the link to the Amazon wishlist hoping to find what you’d like ;). I always tell my kids that my wishlist is public so there is never any doubt! Maybe someone would send me a present! lol But I only update it before Christmas so I can HINT to Philippe about what I might need this year. And YAY to still splashing around for World Watercolor Month! I’ve not been able to comment hardly at all this month, but I’ve seen and love what you’re making!! ❤️

  12. I love your boots. I never owned rain boots myself. I must have been a deprived child. But, if there was a rainstorm with no thunder and lightning, mom would let us out on our swimsuits and play in the rain. I can almost capture in my head the wonderful smell of those storms.
