Today, we have a couple of eggs in a pan for no good reason other than the fact that I was craving eggs today. I also rather like the name of this particular preparation which is called sunny-side up. It just sounds sort of happy and after not feeling great the last couple of days, I’m finally on the mend today so it seems an appropriate, if not odd, way to celebrate. With a painting at least, as I’ve still yet to get the actual eggs. This is why I was a terrible urban sketcher. I usually want to sketch whatever weird thing just popped into my head, rather than what’s actually in front of me. I meant to try some urban sketching again this month in honor of my friends attending the Urban Sketcher symposium in Manchester (which started today), but it just hasn’t happened yet. So I’ll just say, I hope everyone there is having a fantastic time!
As for eggs, they’re another thing that changed for me as I got older. As a kid, I wanted only hard boiled or fried eggs with firm yolks. The runny stuff or “ooze” as I called it then sort of grossed me out and I didn’t want any part of it. If an egg like that was served to me, I would carefully eat the white part, playing a strange game of Operation in order to avoid piercing the yolk and ruining any chance of eating. Once the white was completely devoured, I’d let the yolk sit there as a protest to undercooked food. This thankfully, has changed and I’m now able to consume the egg in any fashion it arrives. In fact, I love just about any version of egg that arrives, particulary since I’ve now learned that they’re unfertilized and I’m not eating future baby chicks.
I’m running short on time as ever, but since these posts are in done in real time, I’m happy to report that before getting to this last paragraph, Philippe is currently making me an egg! This happened because he saw the doodlewash I just made, and asked, “why did you paint that?” This, by the way, is not the first time he’s asked that. “Well, you know,” I said weakly, “I was just craving eggs today.” Thankfully, in love, no further questions are necessary and now I’m about to get my wish. Too late to be an urban sketch, unfortunately, but who wants to let their eggs get cold while sketching them? Not me for sure, so I shall bid you farewell as I blissfully enjoy the real thing now.

Eggs, the perfect food. Nice job on this one Charlie! Glad Phillipe obliged. Nothing worse than not fulfilling a craving! 🙂
Thanks so much Susan!! 😃💕 Yeah… I can never go too long without satisfying a craving! hehe… zero patience for that!
Oops sorry, that should be Philippe. 🙂
Oh, yum, sunny-side-up eggs and toast make me happy anytime. Maybe I will doodlewash a diamond and see if the question/result thing works with MY hunny 😂
Thanks so much, Carol! 😃💕 hahaha! If that kind of doodlewash magic actually works… let me know!! I’ve got lots of things on my wish list to try!
Charlie, you are a hoot! And a wonderful artist.
Awww thanks so much, Teri! 😊😃💕
Nice egg portrait! I love them too. For me, eggs are the ultimate comfort food. I like them over easy with the yokes soft and runny enough to dip my toast in. My dad was a fan of poached eggs and had a neat trick of spinning the boiling water in circles and dropping the egg in the center. You had to scoop it out as soon as it cooked or it was a real mess. I never have been able to do it as well as he did. How about Philippe, does he make poached eggs too?
Thanks so much, Nancy! 😃💕 Glad you liked this one. And yep… we do poached eggs here as well, usually on a salad. That’s still the only time I accept the “ooze” as an adult actually. hehe
Hope your egg was delicious as your painting was beautiful!
Awww thanks so much, Jodi! It was!! 😃💕
Great painting today Charlie! I had an over easy egg for breakfast today. There was a time as a girl I only ate them scrambled, or as creamed eggs on toast. One of my all time favorite dinners btw. 🙂 I love eggs anytime though.
Hope you’re feeling better!
Thanks so much, Deborah! 😃💕 Me too! I usually just insisted they be scrambled up so there was never the danger of an undercooked yolk. hehe yum! Now I want eggs again today! And yes, feeling much better today!
Happy to hear you’re feeling much better!
Egg-ceptional! (Sorry) I had these too – must have been something in the air! You can’t go wrong with eggs, especially when they come from your own happy hens. When I was a kid, I was the opposite to you on this 😛 making that yolk run was the bit I looked forward to!
‘Sunny side up’ does sound a good philosophy.
Thanks Jacob! And never apologize for a good pun! Haha! Oh wow… so you liked the runny yolk?? And yet still never managed a taste for ice cream, eh? Such a weird kid.😉 Lol Do you have your own happy hens?
Hahaha! Harsh, even if clearly true. I should never have come out against ice cream, should I…? 😉
Well, my mother has some happy rescue hens. Which means regular supplies of happy eggs. Yay!
Charlie, hope you are on the mend. Thanks for all you do – love your art and especially the sunny side up eggs! Don’t forget to hydrate! Hugs, Robin
Awww thanks so much, Robin! 😃💕 I’m on the mend! I think I drank enough water to float a steamer ship. It’s actually a wonder I haven’t drowned. But it seems to be working! hehe
Funny, I was listening to Martina McBride’s song, Sunny Side Up while driving today! 😉 I’m with Jacob – I used to love runny eggs now not so much! Great Doodlewash today, Charlie! 😄🎨💕
Thanks Jill! 😃💕 There’s a song for everything… I love that! hehe And so you’re in the opposite camp as well I see. Interesting. Not sure what these camps mean if anything of course. LOL Glad you liked the doodlewash!!
Egg-squisite! (sorry Jacob!)😋🐓
Haha! Let he pun wars begin!! yay!! Thanks, Marina! 😃💕
Love your style! You are making me hungry!! 😊
Awww thanks so much, Linda! 😃💕 Glad ya liked this!
So pleased you are feeling better chick! ‘
Sunny days are here to stay, start with an egg or two today.’
He he, so pleased you are on the mend and up for painting today 😀
Thanks so much, Rebecca! 😃💕 I’m still painting daily, but when you don’t feel great it is harder. hehe… but unless I’m actually dead, it probably won’t be enough to stop me!
Oh! Philippe is such a darling, how sweet of him! 😀 I’m sure your meal was as awesome as your painting is. Just my type of egg as well 🙂
Awww thanks, Sissh! 😃💕 Yep… he’s amazing and I’m insanely lucky! hehe
I don’t think there’s any luck involved. Amazing attracts amazing 😉
Kudos to Philippe! I’m glad you are on the mend, and eggs sound like a good breakfast to me…(K)
Thanks so much, Kerfe! 😃💕 Yeah, it’s weird we never have them for breakfast. Just lunch and dinner. hehe
Anytime is good!
Beautifully done, even the crispy bits on the edges. Love your colors too my friend. Sorry to hear you’ve not been up to par but your paintings sure aren’t showing it!
Thanks so much, sis! 😃💕 hehe… thanks for remarking on the crispy bits… I was really trying to get those in there. Lol Glad they read. Feeling much better today, but super ready for a restful weekend!!
I can hear the sizzle! Beautiful Charlie.
hehe! yay! Thanks so much, Sharon!! 😃💕
Love the coloring, Charlie. I think I want an egg for breakfast.
Thanks so much, Kirk! 😃 Glad I could tempt you! hehe
This just makes me feel happy! Maybe it’s that wonderful green cloth or the memory of eggs just like this, but I just can’t stop smiling. And thanks for pointing out that these eggs have one of the best names ever: sunny-side up. Glad that you are feeling better
Aww that’s wonderful, Ellie! 😃💕 Love hearing that this made you happy. So glad you liked it. And thanks, yes, feeling so much better!
I already had breakfast but this is making me really hungry! They look so real! Glad to hear you’re on the mend and that Philippe, the sweetheart, is making you eggs! <3
Thanks Teresa! 😃💕 Glad you liked this! And yes… Philippe kind of spoils me. But there’s really not a chance you’ll ever hear me complaining about that. hehe
You being happy makes me happy!
awww.. thanks friend! ❤
I love your real-time ramblings as much as your lovely doodlewashes.
Awww thanks so much! 😃💕 I’m so glad you do. I always wanted to be a writer, but rambling is all I can seem to pull off. Lol So happy you enjoy it!
Whoops! Hit send before I was ready to leave – was going to say I agree about urban sketches of food. How can anyone bear to sit and sketch it rather than giving it (and whoever has prepared it) the respect it deserves and eating it with pleasure?
Thanks! I always feel like that’s the ONE thing I could urban sketch consistently since I love to illustrate food, but then I HATE the thought of not eating it right away! Lol Even 10 minutes would be a nightmare and not be fun at all! Guess I’m really not cut out to be an urban sketcher. So I’ll just support my lovely friends who are! (or possess much more will power than I do apparently! lol) 😉
Don’t know how, but I missed this one, so am enjoying your sunnies now. I find your purple, yellow, white, and orange composition delectable, Charlie – yum!
My grandkids spent the night a few days ago and made pancakes in the morning for everyone. I made scrambled eggs to go with, and along with fresh fruit, we had a wonderful breakfast. Scrambled are not nearly as pretty as sunnies, or toads-in-a-hole, but I can make scrambled eggs easily. The kids loved them, so I’m finally relieved of always having to make French toast when they stay over night with us.
Of course, who can complain about French toast?
Sweet post and yummy – looking eggs.
Thanks so much! 😃💕
