Written by When it comes to exotic locations, our prompt for today, it’s really all a matter of perspective. Exotic simply means “originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country.” So, what seems exotic to one person in one country, might seem perfectly commonplace to someone else. For me, as an example, exotic is anywhere that has coconuts growing, since I only see them at the supermarket. Once, years ago, I was staying in a small house on the island of Vieques near Puerto Rico. A fresh coconut was chopped for us to enjoy and it was the most delicious coconut I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve actually never had one served to me like that since, so it still ranks as one of my more exotic experiences. Sometimes the rarest things become the most memorable. That’s why I love World Watercolor Month, which happens only once a year, and unites thousands of artists around the globe in the celebration of watercolor. We’ve almost come to the close of this year’s event and I hope you’ve been enjoying it as much as I have!
Today, I have 20 more 5×7″ samples of Winsor & Newton professional watercolor paper paired with a professional watercolor 6 color dot card to give away. So hopefully everyone who wants one can get one! This is only open to residents of U.S./Canada and only to people who haven’t been told they’re receiving one yet. For some parts of the world, it’s already the last day of World Watercolor Month, so thanks so much for your participation in this year’s event. I hope you had a fabulous time. Doodlewash has monthly art challenges all year long, so if you don’t feel like stopping, and I truly hope you don’t, please continue to join us all year! I’ve been painting daily for 3 years and nearly one full month now, and I can’t imagine stopping. If nothing else, I provide living proof, that no matter how busy your life may seem, there’s always a little bit of time you can carve out to make art. Whether your art is painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, or something else entirely, I hope you’ll always show up to make it. Creating new things is a gift that we all have, should we choose to accept it. We are all born with a natural ability to create. The trick is reconnecting with that ability as adults. As you read the artist’s stories on Doodlewash, you’ll quickly see the common theme. It’s not about learning to do something new, it’s about rediscovering the talent you’ve possessed since childhood. So, join us as we venture off with pen, pencil and paintbrush in hand to explore our own creativity each day. In the end, that’s where you’ll truly discover and enjoy a most fascinating and exotic location.

I received my W&N samples in the mail today. Thank you! I never had a fresh coconut. All my exotic travel has been north of the coconut line. My father hated it when we kids would insist that we had to watch Gilligan’s Island, but I remember that they had plenty of coconuts there. And you could make telephones and stuff out of them!😁 I think I’m missing out on something incredible.

Lovely rendition of the coconut. When I was a child, my dad would pound an ice pick into the coconut, drain out the liquid for us to drink, split the coconut with a hammer, and then cut out the flesh for us to eat. It was yummy! I don’t think I’ve had fresh coconut since then.
