Happy Birthday to doodlewash.com! Today it turns 90 days old! They say that it takes around 90 days to really form a habit or addiction, so I guess you can also say that I’ve been completely and totally doodlewashed! Running this blog has been a sweet treat and it’s all thanks to the resident Doodlewash Crew, the amazing Guest Doodlewashers, and the incredibly beautiful and wonderful people who leave encouraging comments each day!
I originally started this blog to keep myself motivated and thought I would be sharing tips, tricks, and videos like the other blogs I’ve seen. But that never felt right, since what I really love most are stories. So the doodlewash adventure began to include storytelling. Not just my little stories, but the many wonderful individual stories of over 50 artists all around the globe! On ALL 7 CONTINENTS!! A small but mighty community of doodlewashers had formed!
I wasn’t sure what to sketch for the occasion, so I just made you all a slice of my favorite cake that Philippe makes, when I beg him to. I dubbed it “Christmas Cake” because he only makes it once a year around that time. It’s super early, but this also serves as a reminder to him as well, so win win! He said I should have put a candle on it, but I always think that one little candle looks a bit sad (like nobody took time to prepare for your party). Unless you are actually one, in which case you don’t care about candles and just want the cake.
Also, in happy birthday news, a lovely WordPress Editor named Krista gave Doodlewash the best present ever by featuring it on Freshly Pressed today! I had a follower goal I hoped to reach by this birthday, but it hadn’t happened yet this morning. Thanks to Krista’s help in getting the word out, it just did! And an extra special thanks for cleverly choosing a doodlewash post that included another artist! It’s just more doodlewashy that way (hmmm… must add to dictionary).
Whoa… this post wasn’t supposed to be this long… better say goodbye. I hope you’ll stay with me for another 90 days! I always say that doodlewashing is more fun with friends, and you’ve just continually proven that’s true. So, thanks, good friends! Hope you like the cake!

Awesome congratulations!
Thanks Catherine!! 😃
I. Want. That. Cake!!! Oh, and congratulations on being featured on Freshly Pressed and getting a ton of followers!!! <3 You rock, my friend!
Haha!! Thanks! I want that cake too!!! It’s easier to doodlewash than bake apparently as it’s difficult to get Philippe to make it!! 😥🍴
Dang…I wasn’t sure I wanted to Like that comment because I want Philippe to bake it for you! There are certain things I only make once a year, too…like the Stolle de Noel bread. But you know, it gets easier to make these things if you do it more often…tell Philippe that! 😀
Lol…oh I’m telling him right now! 😉
😀
Lovely cake, lovely painting! Happy 90 days!
Thanks Wren!! Appreciate it!! 😃

Thank you so much Snehal!! ❤️😃It’s a bummer I can’t have an actual party and invite all of you! That’s the best part of the site! But for now…I guess this virtual cake will have to do! 😊😊
I know, I wish if we all could meet for party! 😍😎
One day…we will!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Congratulations! Nicely done sketch and your blog is fun every day. Way to go. Still…habit or addiction…habit or addiction? I just can’t tell.
I think I’m going with addiction because it sounds cooler and like I’d have more street cred. Not sure why I’d need that, but you never know.
Woohoo!! How exciting!! Im so glad I’ve “met” you and all the amazing artists you feature! And I’m with Teresa.. I want that cake too! ❤️
Thanks Kari!! ❤️😃Someday we’ll have that Doodlewash Meet-up and oh yeah…there will be cake!!! 😃👍🏻
Oh yeah!! I’ll be there.. 😜
A Very Happy Doodlewashy Birthday to You!!! Already thinking of my first ideas to Doodlewash 😉
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol It’s working then!!! Do it! Do it!! 😃❤️hehe
YAY Charlie!! Way to go! I’m sending you a box of cheerful party hats to go with your celebration cake! Well, not really but it sounds like a good idea! Keep up the AWESOME art and storytelling! :-)))
Thanks Jill!! ❤️😃Couldn’t have done it without you! And I’ll accept those party hats if you agree to design them! 😉
Can’t believe you have only been at this for 90 days,Charlie! You seem so at home blogging. Perhaps you’ve found your true calling? Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed too!
PS: You are going to post the recipe for that cake once Philippe bakes it, right? Or is he stingy with his recipe secrets like my Hubby is?:)
Thanks so much Nancy!! What sweet thing to say! ❤️😃 And just ask Philippe and he said, “it’s in French…it’s very complicated” which means yeah…he’s stingy too!! 😊
YAAAAYYY!!! 😀 😀 😀
Hehe!! 👍🏻😃
How do you make a heart on this thing… <3
Lol…on what thing?
On the computer! Did it turn out as a heart or is it … ok, it made a heart. I am not educated in the art of emoticons even though I am a teenager. 😀
What? Did you guys invent emoticons? I don’t know how to do it easily on a computer actually. I’m always on my phone! Lol
It’s amazing that so much as happened in 90 days (90 days Around the World). I don’t know how you keep up the momentum, Charlie, posting everyday. I do appreciate all of the wonderful artists you have brought together. I’m so happy to be a part of the family. Congratulations on what you and the crew have accomplished. 🙂
Thanks so much Sharon!! I didn’t know if I would make it this far. Blogging is tougher than I thought! 😊 But it’s been so rewarding that I can’t imagine stopping now. And so glad you’re part of the doodlewash family my friend! Every success is a shared one! 😉❤️
Happy 90th! Where are the candles???
Haha! Not going to draw 90…I’m not that ambitious! 😉
(Blows party horn) Happy anniversary to Doodlewash! The cake does indeed look rather scrummy… it’s making me hungry again!
Big congrats on the Freshly Pressed too; very much deserved, and what perfect timing! You have cultivated an engaging, warm and vibrant space here – long may you continue to flourish. I’m totally hooked.
Thanks so much Jacob!! I’m glad you’re here! Sorry it’s only a virtual cake. But good to know you’ll be sticking around. More stories and doodlewashes ahead! 😉😃
Yay! Glad to hear it! (party horn)
Just found your blog. Congratulations …that cake looks awfully good, not only to eat, but as a sketch!!
Thanks so much Carmel! Appreciate it!! 😃😃
Happy Birthday! I love cake and I love yours. See ya for the next days to come!
Thanks!! I’m be like super sad if you left me!! 😃❤️
Delicious! (K.)
It is!!! I want a real one!! 😥
Happy Anniversary Charlie! 90 years – errrr days old! I need the recipe for this cake!
Thanks, Jodi! ❤️😃Philippe was being coquettish about the recipe. Then he pulled it up and taunted me with it. It’s in French. (Or at least I think it was…I don’t cook so all recipes look French to me)
congo! 😀 Oh! That pastry looks yummy 😛
Hehe! Thanks friend! 😃
Happy anniversary Charlie and congratulations!!!! The cake looks delicious…(trying to think of a clever way to have it sent ;D). Your blog, like the cake, is such a treat, and you have been so gracious sharing your talent and charm…the icing on the cake. Here’s to many many more days of Doodlewashing…and of course more cake. Cheers!
Awww thanks friend! 😊You comments are so sweet and encouraging. I really couldn’t have made it this far without you! Thanks! ❤️😃
Now we DEFINITELY need to see more food Doodlewashes from you! This cake is fabulous – I could eat it right now (and I’ve just had breakfast)! And congrats on the milestone, many more to come, I’m sure. 🙂
Thanks Rebecca!! ❤️😃 So glad you liked it! I do actually enjoying drawing food so there will be more to come in sure! (Though I prefer drawing from a photo…waiting to eat it isn’t fun! Lol)😊
Congratulations Charlie, you wild thing! 😀 And many mooooooooooore!
Haha! Thanks Laura!! 💜💜💜For calling me a wild thing…that’s hot!! 👍🏻
LOL (((((((((Charlie))))))))))) I only say that to people I feel really comfortable with. Brothers are definitely in that category!! 😀
Haha! Good! I expect nothing less! 😉💜
I have NO idea what doodlewashing is, but I think I already like it!
Oh trust me, you do!! Lol It’s fun and a pressure-free way to try watercolor. You should give it a go! 😉
I plan to read more about it – thanks for sharing on your site!
I’m so glad you got freshly pressed. That’s how I found you today and I absolutely love what you’re doing. You know that amazing feeling when you discover a great show when it’s already two seasons in? That’s what I have right now with Doodlewash and all the archives I know are there to explore!
Awww Ella, what a sweet thing to say!! ❤️😃 Hehe… You can binge-watch doodlewash anytime! Also… in runs in 30 day cycles, so you’re just in time for the start of October’s tour! 😉👍🏻
Oooh exciting. So I have three series to catch up on and a whole new one I can start from the very beginning! Quick question too, do you or any of your doodlewashers do commissions? Pm me via the contact form on my page if you do and will explain more! X
Cool! Just sent you a note!
This cake is awesome! 😛 Congratulations! 😀
Why thank you friend!! Spidey is always welcome at the party. Have you ever tried to make him in a doodlewash? 😉
I haven’t tried. but I’m starting to think about it 😀
Yes please!! Would love to see it (and to feature you friend!)

More, s’il vous plait, as they say…and, no more goodbyes…au revoirs instead, eh, Charlie!
Hehe! Thanks Janina! 😃❤️ Much more to come!! I’ve got a lot of practice ahead (and more stories to tell! Hehe)
I love that you have been freshly pressed and 90 days old…a perfect habit forming addiction! Love what you have done and the lovely community you have created. If this was a social media experiment, I would say you are very successful. I also love that you share such interesting artists with all of us! Many thank you’s to you Charlie, for your paintings, story telling and dedication! <3
Awww Cathe! Thank you so much for your sweet and encouraging comments! I can’t thank you enough…that’s what makes all of this worthwhile! ❤️❤️😃
I have the day off, so what better way to spend it—looking at past Doodles and articles. I’m not brave enough to post yet, but seeing the awesome progress of others is so inspiring.
Aww thanks, Laura! 😃💕 hehe… and not be shy! Posting is the best way to get brave and Doodlewash is safest and supportive place to DO it! 😉
[…] like Philippe made last year, but for this year we talked about rolling up my favorite “Christmas cake” into a birch tree so we can get the best of both […]
