Today we celebrate the annual Draw a Picture of a Bird Day! This day may happen once a year, but it is celebrated monthly by many fabulous artists on WordPress since being championed by my creative sister from another mother, Laura at Create Art Everday, and now hosted by the awesomely talented duo of Kerfe and Nina at Method Two Madness. I wanted a blast of color, so I chose a Rainbow Lorikeet, a beautiful bird with a fun temperament that attracts a huge number of tourists in South Queensland, Australia.
I had precious little time today so I managed this doodlewash and realized I hadn’t written a thing about it yet. So my typical 5 minute research has been reduced to 2 minutes and here’s what I could find. They’re noisy. Like really noisy. They love to travel in pairs and flocks and have a screeching nature of chattering and calling to each other. Lorikeets are quite fond of swooping down from trees calling out loudly to other lorikeets who are likely the other other beings who speak lorikeet and can understand their screaming. Yeah, this bird can’t stop talking so they screech while flying, chatter while eating and even while resting, they keep incessantly tweeting like a human teenager or a celebrity’s assistant.
Lorikeets fly very high in the sky and can travel long distances. Their brilliant color is something amazing to see when traveling in flocks. They are sometimes kept as pets and are considered a fast learner. Since they’re incredibly playful they provide much amusement to those who care for them. Though they are often noted for being demanding and attention-seeking as I’m sure they know they’re quite fabulous and deserving of accolades. And that’s about all 2 minutes of research gets ya, so if you have a couple minutes more, then check them out with a Google!
Join me any and all days you like during April by celebrating a National or International Day with a doodlewash! Tag your image #doodlewashaday and I’ll feature everyone who played along on doodlewash.com at the end of the month!

Love lorikeets. We get to see them at nearby zoos. They are friendly and adorable and so brightly feathered. Your painting is great – you caught the little guy in the air.
Thanks Sharon!! 😃💕 It was fun to play with lots of colors. And it was National Zoo Lovers Day so it could serve double-duty. Hehe
So much gorgeous color and personality! Beautiful work. 🙂
Awww thanks Annie!! Glad you liked it!! 😃💕
Great colours! A new bird to inspire me. Thank you!
Thanks Susan!! 😃💕I love color!! Hehe…so fun when I get to play with so many of them!
Yay!!! To colourful things that let us play! 🙂
FABULOUS doodlewash, Charlie!!! WOWZA! Love that colorful bird as long as I don’t have to hear it! Lol! 💕🎨😄
Haha! Yeah…I guess they can get loud. Love that they talk in their sleep! Lol Thanks so much Jill!! 😃💕
Ohh gorgeous Charlie!
Awww thanks!! So glad you liked this little bird! 😃💕
🙂 welcome!
that is marvelous Charlie! as an Aussie 50% lol, I can say you nailed the bird!
they are that bright and beautiful. Very friendly too. They’re really only noisy in Big Groups, at about dusk. (kind of like the locals, no?!) : O
Thanks so much, Debi!! 😃💕Haha! Just like the locals I’d imagine!! Lol I’ve never heard a group of them…would be interesting to hear!!
…and not only at dusk! We have trees that attract them, but they (the lorikeets not the trees) are not always around. My nickname for them is screechies as they certainly announce their arrival in their inimitable manner. The locals can get a bit noisy when at the local, so Debi has it right! LOL. 😉 Lovely doodle, Charlie.
Awww thanks so much, Janina! Glad you like this!😃💕 I can only imagine how screeching these guys can get! hehe
Screechy…almost to the level of cicadas, but not so ear-piercing. Love it all!
they screech in mass, flying into the tree to roost. then shut up. its over in less than 3 minutes. the white Cockatoos… oh my. they are another story!
Wow, great choice today. So beautiful with all those colors.
Thanks Teri!! 😃💕 Glad you liked this. I love getting a chance to doodlewash a colorful subject. It’s fun!
How marvellous! They sound like a lot of fun if you ask me – perhaps he can sit on the seal’s head. And what a sight it’d be to see one flying through the sky – like a rainbow, with wings. I just scrolled back up to your doodlewash and my cat caught sight of it and is fascinated – I think he thinks it’s coming after him. This often happens; I’d take it as the ultimate approval were I you, Charles!
What?! I have cat approval?! Yay!!!! 😃😃 That’s awesome!! And yeah…I think it would sit on the seal’s head, but I’m not sure if the seal would be happy about that. Hehe
Yep – I think you were reminding him of his more youthful/badly behaved days terrorising birds. He never looks that impressed at my work, though!
Are they the avian equivalent of teenagers? ;D You sure got in the colors, all right! Tis a grand doodlewash! <3
They are!! Hehe…which is why I think they’re so cool!! (This coming from a guy who just got to BE a teenager and never had to deal with raising them, of course! 😊) Thanks Teresa!! 😃💕
Beautiful colors Charlie! And I second Teresa; sounds like some children I have known. (K)
Thanks Kerfe!! 😃💕 They apparently are a bit like children. Well a bit older and someone on Instagram said the ones in her backyard seemed drunk.
I like that description.
Fabulous contribution to draw a bird day. Eye popping color! Thanks for sharing Charlie.
Thanks Sharon!! 😃💕This one made me want to find more colorful things to doodlewash! Fun!! Hehe
Fantastic painting, such a lovely bird. The background information was terrific for such a short research time…somehow the noisy chattiness seems to fit this bird’s couture. Fun post, thank you for sharing.
Thanks Haunani!! 😃💕 Yeah…I was moving super quick yesterday and almost didn’t have time to make my post! Glad you liked the mad dash result! Hehe…these birds are so pretty!!
