Eat What You Want Day Pancakes Doodlewash with berries syrup and butter

Eat What You Want Day Pancakes

So it’s a fun day today! One where you get to throw the diet aside and joyfully eat whatever the heck you want! This wonderful holiday was created by Thomas & Ruth Roy of wellcat.com. For our #DoodlewashDinner tonight, let’s be kids again and have some breakfast! I realize there’s bits of healthy fruit on my plate for today, but they are simply there to disguise the little stack of pancakes, syrup and ice cream scoop of butter that makes the whole thing truly magical. I love pancakes and waffles, so given the opportunity to choose anything, this is what came to mind first. I did lower the decadence a bit by not including whipped cream, and that would really send it over the top, so let’s just imagine it’s there as well.

Each weekend, Philippe and I eat pancakes for breakfast and watch cartoons. I realize this is not something adults normally do when there are no kids around to blame the behavior on, but we do it anyway. Granted, the cartoons are things like American Dad which isn’t exactly meant for children, so we can rest comfortably knowing we’re still adults if that mattered at all to us. It doesn’t. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a kid every once and awhile, regardless of your age.

The only real problem with pretending to be a child when it comes to food is that most of us have lost our childish metabolism. It seems horribly unfair that our metabolisms aren’t based on how young we feel. But age doesn’t stop me from playing the kid sometimes at least. I figure as long as you live life with a bit moderation, you can treat yourself to just about anything you want. Even pancakes for dinner.

You’re all invited to a Doodlewash Dinner Party during the month of May! Just tag your food or drink image #doodlewashdinner and I’ll feature you and your culinary creations in a delicious Doodlewash Gallery at the end of the month!

  1. Great sketch Charlie. I especially like the butter dollop. I like the sounds of this weekend activity you and Philippe have going on! 🙂

  2. Your pancakes look delish, Charlie! 😄 I made some a Saturday or two ago and put chocolate chips, fresh raspberries and pecans in the batter. It felt very indulging. I think Jodi had posted one of her amazing recipes and so I had to try it in what I had available. If I’d had whipped cream, I would have added it! 😉 I like that you watch cartoons! I haven’t done that in ages!! 😄

  3. Stinkin’ LOVE breakfast for dinner! We usually do French toast with lots of cinnamon/sugar and butter but your pancakes look really yummy too. I think this might be my new favorite holiday!😊

  4. I definitely agree about the unfairness of losing childhood metabolism! I love breakfast for dinner and we had Homemade corned beef hash topped with cheese and fried egg. Yummy. And your pancakes look absolutely delicious!

  5. Around here we love breakfast for dinner, though it’s usually French toast or scrambled eggs with everything left over in the frig tossed into the scramble. I’m thinking it’s gonna be pancakes next time, your art has inspired me.

  6. Oh, I agree moderation is the magic to decadent! And why not breakfast for dinner or two breakfasts at different times of the morning?! We’re big fans of blueberry pancakes, somewhat healthy but so yummy! Wonderful doodlewash Charlie!

  7. Oh isn’t it grand to be a kid every now and then?! Why not? No one is judging and in the big picture who really cares if we bust out of adulthood and the seriousness of it all. LOL! That plate of pancakes looks fabulous I hope you enjoyed every morsel Charlie!! 🙂

  8. My siblings and I loved it when mom would make breakfast for dinner, which happened occasionally only on cold winter evenings. It would be dark outside by 5:00, so we would get cozy and put on our jammies and dig into those pancakes or waffles. I haven’t done that in years but have such good memories. Thanks for letting me relive that through your awesome doodlewash, Charlie 🍽

  9. My pancakes never look this good – how tempting! I only tend to have them on Shrove Tuesday, so that’s moderation in the extreme. Too extreme, really.

Your comments about being a kid are affirming, my tendencies toward certain characters and TV shows of which you are probably well aware by now! Though, I watch painfully few cartoons. I dont think I’ve ever seen American Dad, will have to see what it’s all about!
