After we’d celebrated various official days with sketches and posts, it seemed odd that there wasn’t an official annual celebration for watercolor! July is the one year anniversary month of Doodlewash so, I thought I’d try to fix this missing holiday by writing a proposal to register an official month for watercolor – battling over 18,000 submissions received each year to become one of the coveted 30 to be added to the calendar. A long shot, to be sure, but that’s never stopped me and the great news is – it actually happened! And I wanted to let you all know so you could mark your calendars! July is now and forever, officially World Watercolor Month!
Take the ultimate challenge in July of 31 watercolor paintings/sketches in 31 days! (or join when you can, and tag all your watercolor images with #WorldWatercolorMonth in the month of July). And best of all, I’ve teamed up with The Dreaming Zebra Foundation to raise awareness for art education and encourage people to donate art supplies for underprivileged children around the world. Helping our future artists learn and grow! I’m hoping all of you fabulous doodlewashers and friends out there can help me begin to spread the word about the world’s first month-long global celebration of watercolor coming this July! It’s still a play as you can challenge as well! But wanting to see how many people I can get to try the 31 days. It really is amazing to commit to daily. Forms a wonderful habit and isn’t as hard as you’d think!😉
You are a true persuader Charlie lol! I try to paint every day at home, but I also do pastels and other projects, so I really hope that I will be able to do one watercolor a day for 31 days. 😁
Awesome!! Hope you’ll take on the ultimate challenge! My tip is go small…hehe… I used to only paint 3×5″ and now no larger than 6×8… takes less time and still looks beautiful! 😉Do it! Do it!!

LOL… well actually the Doodlewash motto is even shorter since it’s only “DO” … hehe… and I never saw that movie, but sounds fun!
You should see it, it’s kind of a parody on the 70’s detective series Starsky and Hutch. It’s with Oven Wilson and Ben Stiller and they both are hilarious.

Hats off to you, Charlie – shame you spelt ‘watercolour’ incorrectly – hee hee! I was planning to do some very loose watercolo[u]rs later this month when I visit Spain so this will be great motivation. As Jacob says, you’re changing the world! Well done.

Well done, Charlie! I’ve passed the word on for you over on my blog, although I can’t say I’d be able to complete 31 watercolours. Well, I finally painted my first watercolour bird last week. It took me a long time to get motivated, but I finally painted number one! I used your recipe for black/grey – I mixed burnt umber and ultramarine. Magic!
