EXCITING NEWS: July Is OFFICIALLY World Watercolor Month!

World Watercolor Month July 2016 Primary Logo - worldwatercolor.com - Founded by Charlie O'Shields Doodlewash

After we’d celebrated various official days with sketches and posts, it seemed odd that there wasn’t an official annual celebration for watercolor! July is the one year anniversary month of Doodlewash so, I thought I’d try to fix this missing holiday by writing a proposal to register an official month for watercolor – battling over 18,000 submissions received each year to become one of the coveted 30 to be added to the calendar. A long shot, to be sure, but that’s never stopped me and the great news is – it actually happened! And I wanted to let you all know so you could mark your calendars! July is now and forever, officially World Watercolor Month!

Take the ultimate challenge in July of 31 watercolor paintings/sketches in 31 days! (or join when you can, and tag all your watercolor images with #WorldWatercolorMonth in the month of July). And best of all, I’ve teamed up with The Dreaming Zebra Foundation to raise awareness for art education and encourage people to donate art supplies for underprivileged children around the world. Helping our future artists learn and grow! I’m hoping all of you fabulous doodlewashers and friends out there can help me begin to spread the word about the world’s first month-long global celebration of watercolor coming this July! Click the links below to learn more!

This is your celebration, I’m just playing host as usual, so I’m looking for any and all suggestions on how we can make this thing BIG. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

          1. You are a true persuader Charlie lol! I try to paint every day at home, but I also do pastels and other projects, so I really hope that I will be able to do one watercolor a day for 31 days. 😁

  1. I’m in! I’ve joined the Facebook group and have posted a link to your post on my Facebook page. This is so awesome! I’m ecstatic about being part of the first-ever “World Watercolor Month”!

  3. You have more energy than anyone I know! I’ve already joined the FB group, I’ve blogged about this and emailed our art teacher to see if she or some of her students can participate! This should be fun! Kudos to you, Charlie!!!

  4. Hats off to you, Charlie – shame you spelt ‘watercolour’ incorrectly – hee hee! I was planning to do some very loose watercolo[u]rs later this month when I visit Spain so this will be great motivation. As Jacob says, you’re changing the world! Well done.

    1. Aww thanks Michael! 😃I’m at least helping to make the world a little more colorful! 😉And too funny on the spelling… I actually considered making a badge with the watercolour spelling, but didn’t want things to get confusing so stuck with the one!

  5. Well done, Charlie! I’ve passed the word on for you over on my blog, although I can’t say I’d be able to complete 31 watercolours. I will participate, though, hopefully I’d have become semi-professional by then – well, stranger things have happened! Seriously, though, getting the world on board is some good going!

Well, I finally painted my first watercolour bird last week. It took me a long time to get motivated, but I finally painted number one! I used your recipe for black/grey – I mixed burnt umber and ultramarine. Magic!

Thanks for your lovely attitude, paintings and for bringing artists together.

    🙂
