Very nice review, Sandra. I know that ancient painters used shells for storing their pigments, e.g. icons painters used them in XV-XVI century. Mixing small quantity of pigments with water (or egg yolk tincture) in shell dispensers was very practical. There was no plastics invented in XV century and unglazed ceramics pots were not good for mixing pigments either. But I cannot see much need for storing paints in shells today. It probably looks fancy but not very practical.
