Hello and thanks for the warm welcome! I’m going on a Caribbean cruise next fall, and I want to take some sort of travel watercolor sketch kit. I was thinking postcards for the small format and maybe a journal but I’m undecided on paint colors and brushes.
I’m new to watercolors. I have the Daniel Smith Essential set coming tomorrow and I know I can mix a lot of colors from that. Should I look for “tropical” colors instead of mixing on the fly? It’s a Carnival cruise and we’ll be stopping at Ochos Rios, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
As for brushes….I’ve been practicing with a Koi 24 half-pan set and the waterbrush that comes with it. The waterbrush frustrates me because I can’t really control the amount of water. I thought about a set of travel brushes, but how do you deal with clean and dirty water and what to do with it when you’re finished painting?
