Written by Rushing, as ever, to come up with something to paint for this evening, before heading into a long weekend, I ended up going nuts. Or rather, thinking about today’s prompt of “patterned” and then thinking of peanut shells and then promptly painting the inside instead. I was thinking of the outside, but the inside seemed more interesting and I’ve been a bit inside out lately as I attempt to tackle far too many dreams simultaneously. But I’m having a blast! It’s been so much fun to see all the new features slowly beginning to appear on Doodlewash.com (if you haven’t tried yet, you can actually log in now with social account and create your own profile, interact with other members, and upload paintings to your own media gallery! Much more to come, of course, but it’s a great start!). And though it’s perfectly crazy to attempt so many big things at once, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I may be a little nuts, but my passion for watercolor and building community keeps driving me forward! I hope you’ll join me on this next little adventure!
As for peanuts, I’m definitely a huge fan. My dad is no longer with us, but I remember that he also had a fondness for them so they always make me think of him. I love peanuts in the shell because it’s like unwrapping little gifts. I also love gifts. Finding those two and sometimes three little bits of goodness inside is such a fun experience. Sometimes, of course, there would be that one bad nut or a little shriveled deformed looking one waiting there. I was never bothered by this as it just became that much more of a fun little game. Opening each one to see if you won. I do love peanuts served outside of their shell, but they never seem to taste quite the same. So much in life is enhanced by the experiences surrounding it. It’s never just the taste or that particular flavor. It’s the entire moment that’s involved. This is what I love about food. There are so many memories attached to each and every bite.
I’m a bit exhausted heading into this Memorial Day weekend here. I’ve been burning my candle at both ends as they say, trying to get everything fixed on this site and working properly. I’ve never actually tried to burn a candle at both ends in actuality. Hmmm… I kind of want to try that now. But for this moment, I’m going to enjoy some delicious food and toast the week with a little bit of champagne. And I sincerely hope that all of you wonderful people out there reading this are heading into a perfectly wonderful weekend. I, for one, am excited to take a little break. I’m sure my mind is thanking me for the bit of peace and quiet. But I’ll be back soon enough, coming up with crazy new schemes and plans for the future. I don’t think I can live life any other way. It just wouldn’t feel like living then. Sure, everything should come in moderation, but it’s actually quite fun sometimes, when you find yourself going nuts!

You will think I’m crazy – but as a baseball fan, I’ve eaten many a peanut with a cold beer at a stadium. At an Astros game once, I noticed a friend of mine eating them in the shell – just crunching off one half getting both shell and peanut. I told her she was crazy – and she said TRY IT and then tell me. And oh my goodness are they good that way. All the yumminess of a peanut but with a crispy, almost cookie-like salty wrapper. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Beautiful painting. Have a great weekend! Take some rest!

Charlie, this is a fabulous Doodlewash – a perfect portrait of a peanut. And must when I was sure it was one you’d painted with only two colors, it turns out you used five! And when you look at your composition as a whole, it’s shaped like a heart!

I burn my candle at both ends . . .but oh my soul, it makes a pretty light. My dad loved anything in a shell but peanuts and pistachios were his favorites. Thanks.
