ParticipantA place to share YOUR WORK in Watercolour or Watercolour Pencils. Please remember that you are requested NOT to critique anyone’s work unless they ask!
To help us learn what worked for you or didn’t work for you by telling us:
1. what tutorial you used, if any
2. what inspired you to paint this (please keep it to copyright free resources to avoid creating legal issues for DoodleWash)
3. your brand of Watercolour or Pencils
4. Your surface used.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing our artwork!

ParticipantHi everyone. I recently joined Doodlewash, have been learning how to navigate my way around the site, and found this Beginners to Watercolor group today. I have been painting for less than a year, and quite frankly, have spent more time reading about it and watching tutorials and saving watercolor art on Pinterest to attempt them as practice. I challenged myself to participate in the October watercolor challenge and am behind – did not want to post any photos until I am “caught up.”
I am definitely getting cold feet about posting any photos of my paintings as a beginner. So, I was happy to find this Group. But…when I looked for “artwork,” there are 2. When I open the tab, there is just 1, count 1, beautiful but very very lonely looking pear. I see there are 52 members…one pear. Not only have I gotten cold feet about posting on the main site, but feel even worse about it from seeing this site.
Basically, I guess I am saying: I’ll show mine if you show yours! 😉
Thought just occurred to me: are people posting for “friends only”? Curious now.

InactiveWelcome, Shar. I think many people may be posting their work in the main gallery or on their own walls. Not sure if those posts show up in this forum’s artwork. Hopefully someone else will come along and explain.

ParticipantWelcome Shar! I think Sharon is correct. I’m know I’m just now beginning to get a handle on the scope on the Doodlewasb platform and expect others are too.
When I created the Beginners group, I honestly thought I was making a subject topic in the main forums! 😮 Once I realized what I had done, I thought it might be a good idea to let it stay as a group and see what happens. 🙂
I’m working mainly in watercolur pencil right now because I’ve yet to find a workable solution for my needs. I’m an invalid, and spend a great deal of time working from my bedchair on a lap tray. I use a tilting tray on that so I can better see my surface. It leaves practically no room for a paint palette with mixing tray. I’ve done one piece in traditional watercolours which made me realize the difficulties as I spent more time juggling materials than painting. lol I know there’s a solution out there – just need to find it. 🙂
Anyway, it doesn’t feel right to post my watercolour pencil work in the group. I’ve put it on my personal timeline, instead. I had thought I had put that one piece here, but obviously not. 😮 I will do that today and hopefully others will join in with their work soon! ❤️

KeymasterYeah, I’m even still figuring out all the features I packed this site with! hehe… But yes, most people are just posting to their own profiles, which goes to the main site feed. And if you use the +Paintbrush icon it will go to the member’s gallery. If you ever want to share something without it going to the main gallery, you can also use the IMAGE ICON in the lower left of the post box. This will just post it in the moment and show up in the site’s main feed.
And good news! This entire site is built for all, regardless of skill level, so post away!! Never feel shy… it’s an awesome and supportive community!

ParticipantCharlie, is there a way in this forum, to post photos using a mobile device? I have tried a few different ways but so far I’m not finding a switch to change that option. It will only link here from a website/url if not uploaded by computer. 😏 😏
I thought it let me do that from the main group feed but not here … or am I just being old and senile again? lol

This was my second piece actually. I did another freehand flower to test the paper as the sketchbook is brand new. 🙂

ParticipantHi Yvonne,
Looks like you have “broken the ice” with your photos. Thank you! Now I have to make the time to participate by figuring out how to post photos.
Two thoughts:
1: reading your description of how you have to paint in bed, immediately reminded me of Frida Kahlo!
2. there really is “watercolor” in “watercolor pencils.” Looking forward to seeing your work.
