My name is Sankar Thakur and I’m a Delhi-based contemporary watercolorist (follow me on Facebook!). Since childhood, I have refused to admit that water is colorless, shapeless and odorless. I used to look at paintings and wonder how one can say that water can’t create shapes?
Years later, I joined the Art College at Kolkata. There, I picked up a brush, dipped it in color and turned to a blank canvas for the first time. Ever since, I have never looked back. That was the beginning. I’m sure there are countless artistic souls out there who try to capture the beauty of Mother Nature on their blank canvases.
Be it a clear sky, a landscape or a flock of birds heading home at dusk, carrying straws in their beaks, the picture simply doesn’t leave you.
Watercolor paintings depend on the feeling of light and shadow of an object from nature. Watercolor paintings are considered a unique way, to creatively represent dreams, illusions, emotions, and bright feelings using water-soluble pigments. Hence, they call for a great deal of precision and control. This medium of art is very popular and, keeping that in mind, I hope these watercolors will surely inspire you.
For a few years, I had no idea why I loved the moving cityscape illusion, architecture, and the monumental quality or lifestyle of the city. I believe every color of the wall in the city has a type of shape. I’m trying to catch each shape and color, and the flow of lines. Watercolor is a medium that can create the illusion of motion in paintings and we all depend on this invisible way of capturing what we see.
We believe everyone is a contemporary, socialized art lover and people are trying to understand about the art attitude in the market.
We are the branch of beautiful minds with lots of talent from our country, trying to explain the right path. We think paintings and sculpture are just a way of building new culture in the world.
Be true to yourself, help others, make each day your masterpiece, make friendship a fine art, drink deeply from good books – especially the Bible, build a shelter against a rainy day, give thanks for your blessings and pray for guidance every day.
The problem with fine art is that, in most cases, people have to make a special excursion to go and look at it, and they can’t afford to own it. So it isn’t really part of their life in that way.
I love Rajasthan city landscape for the warm and cool color, beautiful style of hat and dress with brown sand all over. I love to draw old architect, doors and, the best, people who love music.

Amazingly amazing. Each piece is a story in itself. Proud of you Sankar Sir.
I liked all the images. They have something special to catch anyone attention no matter he is an art lover or not. Specially the fourth one from the top, the light and shadow effect is brilliant. I hope you go a long way in your life. I also hope the artist like you could be seen by most of the people of this planet so that one who need you most can get you 🙂
