GUEST ARTIST: Vibrant Watercolours Inspired By Festivals Of India

#WorldWatercolorGroup - Watercolour by Urvashi Patel Art - Penguins - There is a cake in the kitchen - #doodlewash

Hello, my name is Urvashi Patel. As I am from India (now settled in the UK), I am very much inspired by the festival of colours called “Holi”, when people celebrate by throwing colours at each other and enjoy their day. In India there are many more festivals full of colours like Diwali when people draw mandalas outside their house with coloured powder to decorate their entrance, kite flying when you can see a sky full of colourful kites etc.

I love to see everything covered with colours. When I see any animal, bird, people or any building, I like to see them in different vibrant colours instead of their original colours. I believe there is a life in all those colours. I used to draw and paint in school but had given up on art due to studies and a different career path.

I started painting again two and a half years ago with watercolours when my husband got me a painting kit to paint and not get bored while he is away playing cricket on weekend.

Since then, I started painting and used various mediums like acrylics, coloured pencils, pastels etc. but keep coming back to watercolours which made me think this is my medium. I started playing around and always paint any subject with different vibrant colours. I mostly paint animals and birds as nature attracts me more.

I love watercolours as there are no rules for watercolours. I use different water-based mediums like acrylic inks, fabric colours etc. I think by reading books or watching videos we can obviously learn something, but I truly believe in the saying “Practice makes man perfect”.

With every piece I create, I learn something which is a key towards the success I think. Next, I want to travel to places and do some plein air painting. Hopefully, I will find time to do so.#WorldWatercolorGroup - Watercolour by Urvashi Patel Art - Gabi The Rescue Dog - #doodlewash

I must say that I enjoyed World Watercolor Month last year which made me paint every day, though I didn’t paint all 31 days but it helped me a lot in building a routine to paint regularly in this busy life.
