GUEST ARTIST: “A Letter From Argentina” from Freckles

Dear Doodlewash Readers:

I am Freckles, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. My real name is Clara Rossi and I am a fine art student at the UNA (National University of Arts). I’ve drawn for as long as I can remember, actually my first drawing was of a horse. I remember how bad it looked, but I’m sure that I did it with love and enthusiasm.

I stopped drawing when I was in High School, because honestly? I had my head in the clouds. When I finally graduated, I made one year of graphic design, but I realized it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I was more interested in the social than the commercial. I live with my parents. My father is a publicist and my mother is a dentist. I have four brothers, and I’m the only girl.

They are studying different kinds of design, so I can say that I come from an artist family. Three are bigger than I, and my favourite is Joaquin, my little brother of seventeen. He has “Kabuki Syndrome.” It’s a rare syndrome that affects a very little part of the population. He can’t speak but we can understand him. He’s learning so much with help from my family and he is very special. He loves music and art as I do. I love when he sits next to me and starts drawing. Joaquin is the most beautiful, kind and sweet person I have ever met, what can I say? He’s my angel and I’m proud of him.

This year, I started a visual art career, with the idea of doing post graduate work in “art therapy.” Then I can work with people of different capacities in the future. It will take some time, so I’ll try to take some courses starting the next year of special education, so I can be prepared for it. I really hope to become who I want to be, it’s like people say: “the journey is what matters.”

This winter vacation, I created my ID “Freckles” on Instagram ( @frecklesskin) and Facebook (Freckleess). I was talking with a friend about my personal works and he motivated me to show them on social media. So thanks to you if you’re reading this!!!

Anyway, why Freckles? Cause I wanted to call myself something that represented me. I realize that I have lots of them, so I thought that was a pretty name. It sounds better in english, like so many songs. Putting my art progress on Instagram and Facebook, was a good way of motivating me to do works every day and practice. My work sometimes represents how I feel (most of the time) or how I feel after listening to a song or something I read or heard.

I love drawing with pencils (2B and 4B), and now I’m learning to adore aquarelles (watercolour). I don’t know how to used them right but it’s something that makes me feel relaxed and calm. I really enjoy it! The paints are not mine, actually they are from my mum as are the papers…one day I’ll give it all back to her. She’s a really good painter, better than I am.

To be honest, I don’t consider myself an artist. I think that I have a long journey and lots of stuff to learn and practice to become an artist. I am thankful for art as it is the most beautiful way of expression. I hope I didn’t write too much. It’s the first time that I’ve written something like this and I feel naked.

So thanks, Doodlewash.com and all of you that take the time to read about me. It was an honor for me and a fun experience to be a part of this!

Big hugs and kisses,

Clarita

  1. Freckles, Clarita – hello! You have a heart of gold and talent to go with it that would be perfect for art therapy – how you talk about yourself and your family speaks volumes about your loving soul. I see a Singing in the Rain image that you painted – I love that movie with Gene Kelly.
