Abandoned Prairie by Lorna Moore

GUEST ARTIST: “Abandoned Prairie” by Lorna Moore

My best friend from art school, Lorna Moore, (wow… it’s been over 20 years ago now!), came over yesterday and wasn’t having a particularly amazing week, so there was only one obvious solution to that problem – a doodlewash date! We had a fast lunch at a little local pizza place and then came back to my place for a quick little d&d (decompression & doodlewashing… like r&r, but so much cooler!)

Lorna works in every type of medium imaginable and has quite an impressive art studio in her home. She prefers acrylics over watercolors, but I talked her into making her first doodlewash and this is the lovely result!  We both sort of left art making after school and she picked it up again in the last few years (I’m behind, having just started again last month!)

I don’t think I was able to convert her into a full-time doodlewasher, but that’s just fine. Her mixed media and acrylic paintings are wonderful, and though she no longer maintains a regular blog, you can take a peek at her previous entries here! From stamping to assemblage to photography to full paintings, she has created a slew of wonderful pieces of art.

I have a few new pieces from Lorna, but will always have a fondness for the first ones I acquired back in art school. She said she hated them, so I immediately asked to have them and have been prominently hanging them up in every place I’ve lived over the years, which she also hates, and I find very amusing. After all, that’s what friends are for!
