Written by This stunning doodlewash comes to us from Bogdan Shiptenko in Ukraine (follow him on Instagram @bogdan_shiptenko). He enjoys mixed media and his favorite materials include Copic Multiliner Pens, gel pens, rollerball pens, and watercolor.
He went to art school for 6 years, then in the 10th and 11th grade, he studied at the Lyceum on the aesthetic faculty. He then enrolled in University at the Faculty of Fine Arts, graduating from a 4-year program, and then entering a 5th year.
Bogdan says, “I love to draw graphics, and use watercolor. Our faculty teaches us a lot and gives us knowledge about the different kinds of fine and decorative arts, as well as design. The university has given me a lot, for which I am grateful!”
In addition to the university, he is constantly seeking useful information learned from other artists on the Internet. “I like to be engaged in the arts, to create something new and beautiful. ” And you can watch Bogdan creating beautiful things in real-time tutorials via his YouTube channel where he features Speed Drawing Videos:
Bogdan says, “When I draw my work, I try on every stroke… whether it is art or whether it’s graphics, I try to paint it with the soul. Sometimes I am inspired by the works of other artists, and then I sit down to paint. Every time I try to do their work I get better. I wish you all inspiration and creativity!”

I think the biggest hurdle for me is drawing what you see instead of drawing what you think is there. It’s training my mind, I suppose. It’s easier to correct yourself when you use a reference photo as opposed to “live” drawing. So I’m trying to sketch everyday, just ordinary things so I see contours, shapes, and angles. It doesn’t come naturally for me but I’m practicing. 😊
Just keep on DOing and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you get better. 😃You’re right on the training your mind part. I struggle with that too. A good trick is to pick an object or something you’re not as familiar with. Then you can just explore the contours and not get caught up in making it “real.” 😉
