Welcome. My name is Edoardo Dispenza. I’m Italian and I live in Pavia, a city in the Lombardia (Lombardy) region of northern Italy, on the left bank of the Ticino River, 32 km south of Milan. My family of professional artists (classic music, classic dance, painting, architecture) had a great, indelible influence on my development; they are enlightened people to whom I owe the birth of my love of art. I have been fascinated by art for more years than I care to remember.
My hobbies include music and the literature too. I also love to travel and try to visit as many countries and cities as I can in the world. My love of drawing and painting began when I first picked up a pencil and brush.
Please take a leisurely wander through some of my drawings. With them I try to move myself toward new horizons. I always hope my images have something to say. I hope you enjoy your visit and that it replenishes you.
I do illustrations by mainly using the techniques following:
Watercolor
Oil paint
Collage
Felt-tip pen
Ink
Pastel
Pencil
Tempera
I tend to paint in any medium that suits the purpose of what I’m trying to achieve, for the time being I favour watercolors. I love using a limited palette, as much as I like using a full range of color. Any special artistic influences? I love to play with color. Not only and always the bright, shiny, good color, but also the atmosphere… mysterious and special.
I enjoy creating images which are where possible evocative. All around us there are views, colors, moments, tiny cracks in the matrix of ordinary, sometimes brief, yet stunningly clear. Things distant to hand make the best subjects for me. I still strive every day to learn more about painting in particular and art in general. The day an artist sits back and is satisfied with his efforts, that is the day he ceases to be an artist!
If you want to be a painter of pictures then start with a pencil, it will give you an appreciation of line, of tone and train your eye on how to represent objects on a two dimensional surface to make them appear three dimensional. My work has been published in books and magazines and has been used by greeting card manufacturers and industrial clients.
Please do not ask me too much about creative process or how I sketch and paint, what inspires me, etc.! You know, you have the sheet of blank paper, the pencil, and the will to invent… As nothing can come of nothing, I begin with an idea, an image, a dream and then it becomes something else… Do not worry; artists can redeem a wasted day in two minutes. As you all know, the enemy of creativity is “good” sense.
